Damp / Condensation on Party wall

I have a bit of a damp problem with a house we have purchased and was wondering if someone could offer some advice. The wall to the front of the house shows very minimal condensation marks right at the very bottom of the paper and the rest feels fairly dry. The front lounge also seems dry...

Geohazards - could these effect future possiblity of extension

The land / environment searches for a property we are purchasing has passed, but points to these considerations. Compressible Ground and Running Sand. The last bit says, "Certain constraints may apply to land uses involving excavation", could this mean issues when it comes to digging...

Home buyers survey - damp proof course

Yeah seems like a typical, cover my ar** language. This bit worries me the most... Dampness was detected at low level to the main walls and further specialist investigation to the whole property is required prior to exchange of contracts.

Home buyers survey - damp proof course

I am purchasing a property and the home buyer report mentions that remedial work would be required and also mentions that a specialist survey is required. The property was built in 1930s. Just wondering if I should be concerned about this or is it just a generic reports to cover liability. The...

    Gas meter reading issue

I think I worked it out. The display unit shows kwh value as the reading, however the suppliers was the m3 reading thats only on meter. They then convert the m3 reading to kwh.

    Gas meter reading issue

Just noticed something, the reading is in kwh and not units. Is that what it should be?

    Gas meter reading issue

Yeah it was 0 when installed. It is already on 003000 in 6 months. So if we go by ignoring the first zero. The reading at start of July would be 1343 and reading today will be 3000. So 1700 units used in two summer months, just ain't right. And why would eon be charging as 134.

    Gas meter reading issue

Around 6 months ago I got smart meters installed for gas and electric. All was well as EON was automatically reading the meters but few month ago I changed suppliers and they can't read the meters automatically. I don't have a problem with sending the readings but there is a problem with gas...

    Mixer shower valve replacement

I am planning on replacing an old mixer shower valve with a new one. It seemed like a straight forward job, but now I'm not too sure. The old unit has the temp control bit on the right and the new one has this on the left. If the temperature control knob is on the right or left, does it mean...

Paint stored outside - Freezing conditions

covered. Only concerned about the freezing weather. I have looked in the container and it seems ok. The liquid / oil was on the top and it seems to be ok once I mixed it. If I use it, could it have any issues after use?

Paint stored outside - Freezing conditions

Just before the cold spell this year, I stored some paint in the alley way. Would it be any good now? It was Delux water based emulsion paint.

    Leak through bath sealant

    Don't say that.

    Leak through bath sealant

I like your solution and will look into that. With the trim, I am planning on creating a slope of around 15 - 20 degrees (straight into the bath). I will also use sealant behind the trim and at the front to be extra safe. Might use the wood at the base and use the trim also.

    Leak through bath sealant

I have a rented out property. The bathroom is upstairs and water seems to be coming through the sealant and has damaged the kitchen ceiling. I will be replacing the ceiling soon and want to fix the leak issue too. It seals that the bath lowers on the wall side, when someone stands in it. I...

Nah the roof is just normal, all flat and quite old.

    Temporary study in the Loft

Thanks for your response. The floor space is already there. The ceiling is already plaster boarded, so I would only need to plasterboard the walls. Probably get a central heating radiator installed as it seems the most cost effective and efficient solution. Lets see how it goes. Will post...

Would love to know the history of the loft. We have been here for around 15 years.

    Temporary study in the Loft

The loft floor currently has rock wool insulation on it. Should I just remove it from the floor space I will use? Or do I need to put it back or another type of insulation between the floor boards and the second floor ceiling plaster board. Most of the loft already has floor boards and...
