Oil burner fails to start intermittently

On the RDB, there are two silver flat head screws, one on top and one down by oil pump. Once they are removed the red cover will lift off, careful of any oil line etc as you remove it. Once the cover is off, looking from the back towards the top middle is what I can best describe as a black...

Any clues to the size of heating pump nuts

If you are referring to the nut that joins to the pump flange, then it is 52mm I think (on domestic size pumps). Screwfix sell a "pump nut spanner".

Are there any circumstances when this could happen?

You need to install an autobypass valve to comply with building regs, a gate valve no longer complies.

Price can't include powerflush, theres no way they can do the boiler change / commission and powerflush properly in one day.

    Condensate pumps

Thanks. Tried ringing but shut down for new year. Got a boiler in a basement (carpeted & decorated) where the smart ass who installed it decided to cap off the PRV which is now blowing seals due to EV failing so need to come up with a relatively low cost / low disruption means of providing...

Thanks. I assume the thermo couple must provide power to the fan for this or is it by means of a relay?

What type of mixer is it? Is it a thermostatic one? Are the hot and cold plumbed in correctly?

Bearing in mind that I am mainly an installer and only do occasional servicing and breakdown so don't have day to day contact with FF standing pilot light boilers. I thought the fan would only operate under a demand.

    leaking pipe

If its a solder joint then your best to drain down the system at least to below where the joint is. You can freeze it so long as you can do it far enough away that the heat from soldering does not melt the ice plug, but you will have to cut a new section of pipe in as you cannot solder with...
