Check all cables properly fitted/seated. Possibly distributor cap dirty/corroded inside - check and clean. Similarly the rotor arm. Worst case the distributor cap is cracked get a new one (and rotor arm whilst you are about it) at Halfrauds.

If the engine is burning oil then the level on the dipstick will be down at fairly frequent intervals. Is it ? How often do you have to top it up and by how much ? This is the test. Also, sometimes there's a noticable puff of grey smoke from the exhaust, is there such smoke ? Regards

Don't know about the steering issue, but grey smoke implies oil being combusted. If so check how much oil you are using. The worst case could be worn piston rings.
