Corsa - Sluggish when cold, engine rattles at mid-high speed

Give us a pointer, does the rattling vary with engine speed ? If not it may be something loose which only rattles at certain vibrations. For sluggishness have you checked all the usual suspects - air filter, plugs and if when cold - the correct operation of the choke (if you have one).

Replacing front disk pads - Ford Fiesta

I've a 1993 1.1 Fiesta and want to replace the front disk pads. This just seems to be a "take off the calipers; take out the old pads; replace with new pads" type job. Can anyone advise please: - Is it really a simple job ? - Any kit needed other than new pads ? - Any special tools...

    Learning to Drive - insurance

My situation is different: My son owns his own car and is insured in his own name, he is 19. My daughter is taking driving lessons with a recognised instructor. To give her extra experience I want to get her insured on my son's car. Because he is 19 he cannot be the...

    Ford Fiesta Wing Mirror

Or, get a Haynes manual from your local library and try to fix it - it's quite simple (if long-winded) to remove a door mirror.

    Learning to Drive - insurance

As I understand it, to drive a car as a learner you must:- - Be insured for the car - Be accompanied (in the front passenger seat) by a driver who is over 21 and has held a full licence for at least 3 years. - Display L plates whist driving. Nowhere do I read that the accompanying...

    OIL CHANGE

With regard to whether the oil cooler disgorges oil at an engine oil change, either phone your local dealer and ask or borrow a Haynes Manual from your local library. You mention that the dipstick design is naff - but what did you rely on before the oil change ? Did it read OK ? If so then run...

Consequences of running a car with no oil?

If the engine has overheated, there will be no coolant showing in the header tank (if you have one) so this isn't necessarily catastrophic. White smoke from exhaust can indicate a blown head gasket - that is, blown internally. If it was blown externally you'd hear a "chuffing" sound and white...

Consequences of running a car with no oil?

Why think leaking oil - was there a puddle under the car before she started out ? If so why start out ? 1) Get her to check the dipstick for presence of oil. 2) If none, fill up with oil to the level. 3) If oil OK or when filled try to start engine - gently. 4) If no turn over (&...

Yellow sludge in oil filler cap

Sorry for the delay in feedback - I've been away. Anyway, I changed the oil & filter. I'm still getting yellow sludge but I now think it is to do with driving to work and the engine not getting up to temperature. After a long run there's no sludge and I can get a long run in weekly. In all...

Yellow sludge in oil filler cap

I've a 1993 Ford Fiesta 1.1 which I've recently bought. My daily drive to work is generally not far enough for the engine to get properly warm (temp. guage just in "norm" zone). Though I do longer journeys at weekends. When checking the oil (it needed topping up) I noticed that the filler cap...

    Kitchen Downlighters

Thanks people for all your advice/help. Found two transformers and replaced them - but no effect. Then.. I got really annoyed and pulled out all the wiring that I could and found the transformer that links with my offending set of lights ALSO served the downlighters for the kitchen cupboards...

    Kitchen Downlighters

Thanks, but..... Yes they are indeed 12V. I would have expected a transformer attached somewhere to the wiring of the offending lights but there isn't one so attached. Where else might it be. And if not attached to the offending lights why do only these go out ? And yes I've checked cabling...

    Kitchen Downlighters

In my kitchen I have 6 rows of 12V 20W downlighters. In some rows ther is only one light and in others there are 3 lights. They work via a dimmer switch. After the lights have been on for a while, a row (one light) and the adjacent row (three lights) go out. The others remain on. The rows...

    Fiesta Engine Oil

Halfords 1:- Deisel oil sold in black container. Halfords 2:- You mentioned that the garage refused to change your oil because the drain-plug was rounded. No problem just buy a new drain-plug & gasket from Halfords and use a pair of gas pliers or mole grips to undo the old one (use a file to...

Ford Fiesta Draining the cooling system

My Son's 1993 Ford Fiesta overheats - block hot, radiator cool, coolant level down. For me to check the thermostat and/or water pump I believe I need to drain the cooling system. (1) Can anyone confirm whether it is merely a matter of loosening the drain-plug on the radiator. (2) Once I've...

    Tiling an outside wall

She who must be obeyed has decreed that one of our outside wall panels (currently cement rendered & sound) should be tiled with broken tile pieces to create a random mosaic. Can anyone advise whether there's any special adhesive and grout needed for this enterprise ? Has anyone out there ever...

    Replacing external cladding

My house is a converted stone barn. Where the barn doors were at the rear I have, on the ground floor, a large expanse of glass and french windows; above this on 1st floor the external finish is pine T&G cladding surrounding one window. This cladding is running vertically and has now (after 12...

Hoover "six.1200" Washing Machine & damp cloth

After completing its wash/spin/dry cycle, I find that the washing at the bottom of the drum is still sodden whereas the washing on top is dry ! There is no water visible in the drum and as far as I can see the outlet hose is not kinked at all. Also sometimes there is a 'soapy' white residue on...
