Portable generator produces 240v but not 110v

Yes, there are two outlets marked 240 and 110 with a switch between the two. I can't find anything online yet about this particular issue. Loads of advice if it doesn't produce ANY power but not for my issue!

Portable generator produces 240v but not 110v

Hi, my generator runs and produces 240v but when I switch it over to 110v I only get about 5v. Is there something obvious, to those in the know, that I should check please? It's a Gardener Marshall Type SIT 210BS 3KVA. I got it second hand as spares or repair so I am delighted that it runs at...

Nilfisk pressure washer - drain & tube cleaner problem

Hmm, thanks for the quick comments. That's annoying, the water pressure is very good here so I suspect the machine is not man enough for the task! The machine is actually borrowed so I may have to buy (or borrow ) a larger one. It's a Nilfisk E140.2 - any good?.

Nilfisk pressure washer - drain & tube cleaner problem

Hi, I have just bought a 15m drain and tube cleaning hose for my Nilfisk Pressure Washer. When I connect the new hose, the pressure washer runs for about 5 seconds and then cuts out. I have to release the trigger and wait for about 10 seconds before it will start again. 5 seconds later it...

    Sliding garage door repair

Thanks. Yes 3mm flat bar with the offcuts used as the tabs welded to the bottom. It actually bent really easily and I used quite a lot of pegs with a small distance between them to get a good curve.

    Sliding garage door repair

Just a quick update in case anyone is interested. It has taken a while because I only go over there occasionally! The bending and welding was actually very easy and the new track fits fairly well in the original slot. I just need to do the final 'joining' welds to connect the new to the old...

    Sliding garage door repair

Thanks guys for your replies. Getting the F-in-L to put his hand in his pocket for anything made by a pro won't happen, so if it is going to get done, then it's me! This is exactly what I am intending to do, but I am planning to just form the curve by bending the bar around the wooden dowels...

    Sliding garage door repair

I am trying to help my Father in Law fix his sliding garage door. It is a large sectioned wooden door hung on rollers with locating lugs at the bottom of the lower hinges running in a curved metal channel embedded in the garage floor. The curved element of the bottom channel has rusted away...

    Cutting metal embedded in concrete

Thanks for your replies guys. I think the angle grinder option is a good one as I will have to repair the concrete around the track anyway. I have some other questions about my plan for the repair, so I may start a new thread on that. Ta.

    Cutting metal embedded in concrete

Can someone please give me some advice on a suitable tool for cutting a square end on the sliding garage door channel pictured above. As you can see, the track is encased in concrete and has rotted away on the curve of the door. I am planning to construct a new section for the curve which...

Gloworm CXI30 hot tap heating c/h pipe

When I turn on my hot tap I notice that in addition to hot water at the tap the furthest left hand pipe on the boiler (c/h flow) also gets hot. Hotter than the tap pipe. This sometimes actually heats the flat up when the thermostat is not calling for heat. Anybody got any ideas please?

Shower outlet bottoms out 45 degrees short

I am trying to correct some fairly poor work and the picture below shows an issue with the shower outlet. I screw it all the way in and it bottoms out just 45 degrees before the correct 'outlet downwards' position. If I unscrew it 3/4 of a turn then it feels very loose. What is the best way...

    Smaller swept T fitting needed?

I think our posts crossed there! Is there a problem with all of the kitchen waste (inc washing machine) passing through the new swept T directly behind the bath?

    Smaller swept T fitting needed?

Here's a thought. How about cutting the top pipe (left of the spirit level) and adding two 45's, one down and one up. I could then connect the bottom pipe directly to the top (creating a proper fall for the new single pipe), and use a swept T to take the bath waste. Like this? Would there be...
