    Gloss paint on exterior wood

You're probably better off removing all the old paint and using primer, as the paint that looks ok now could become detached and peel at a later date.

    Wood stain in stairs

There used to be a brown brush paint on the market that produced the appearance of light streaks in the painted item, like a wood effect, but I can't remember any more than that.

    Painting asbestos roof tiles

Sounds like a "bad idea". If you're going to camber over the tiles to brush paint them, then you are probably going to disturb the asbestos fibres which you could inhale and could float down into your house. You're better off leaving them be, or better still have them removed by an experienced...

What paint to use on a garage floor, painted 25 years ago?

25 years ago, I used International Paint's "Concrete Floor Sealer" and Bright Red "Garage Floor Paint" on my garage floor, and it's still going strong, has not pealed or faded. However, there are some chips in the paint, a few small areas of abrasion and damage from spilt spray-gun cleaner...

Number of teeth for a saw to cut branches off a tree

l bought a cheap B&Q tipped saw for my father and it cut wood like butter, so I would like to buy myself one for cutting branches of a tree, so just wondered how many teeth per inch should I look for?

Many HPI Check Write-Offs On Gumtree

When contacting the seller, ask if they have a "Vehicle Identity Check Pass Certificate", I was given this after my car was checked by the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency.

Many HPI Check Write-Offs On Gumtree

My car was a category C write off, and about a year after I had it repaired, the DVLA demanded that it be checked by them. Consequently, one would assume that an HPI Check would not flag it up, however when I went to part exchange it for a new car two years later, the garage said that my car...

    Uneconomic Repair

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this, but if you do have a car that is written off because of the cost of repair, then at a later stage the DVLA may ask you to take it to be inspected by one of their engineers, to check that it is the original vehicle chassis number, and not two welded...

Can an old car pass the MOT without a spare wheel

My car is 20 years old, the spare wheel is borderline, and I don't want to get an Advisory Note for it, therefore if I took the spare wheel out, will the car pass the MOT without a spare wheel, as modern cars are even sold without a spare.

Second hand Heatrae Sadia Sapphire/Pearl shower wanted

The shower still works OK. As we did not have a hot summer, I did not have to change the connections around on the toggle twitch, which would have taken me a minute if the weather had been hot.

Second hand Heatrae Sadia Sapphire/Pearl shower wanted

Because it will take a couple if minutes to replace the toggle switch whereas it will take a few hours to perhaps bang holes in the wall, relay the pipes, etc to enable me to fit a new shower. I hardly think that a shower costing £50 will be very reliable anyway, a two year guarantee is useless...

Second hand Heatrae Sadia Sapphire/Pearl shower wanted

Sorry to bump this post, but I am still interested in buying this Heatrae Sadia unit, a new one too in the unlikely event that someone has one.

    Motorised valve

I am not a plumber, just a DIY-er, and I had to replace my 20 year old Drayton mid position actuator MA1 with another that I bought from B&Q about 5 years ago and no problems since: 20 years life sounds reasonable to me.

Circulating Pumps CP53 CH pump versus the low energy CP50?

I now post images of the Performance Curves for the two pumps. I live in a house and the pump is 0.5 m below the maximum height of the radiators, about 2.5 m above the minimum height of the radiators/pipes, and about 2.5 m below the header tank overflow. Hence using top right CP50 graph...

Circulating Pumps CP53 CH pump versus the low energy CP50?

I installed my current Circulating Pumps CP53 CH pump 10 years ago and it is still going strong, although to make it last I have used the slowest speed setting of 1. My previous pump only lasted about 5 years, also set on speed 1, consequently I am thinking of replacing the pump as in the past I...

Is there any difference between the Toyota GT 86 & Subaru BRZ

Thanks Luke, looks like it has to be the Toyota then.

Is there any difference between the Toyota GT 86 & Subaru BRZ

I wondered if anyone knows if there is any difference between the Toyota GT 86 & Subaru BRZ, particularly if you have driven both cars, eg mechanical and comfort. I have driven the GT86 but only up to 40 mph, it was a nice positive drive and quite comfortable, but too much traffic to say much...

What was the delivery mileage on your new car, or someone that you know?

Thanks guys. I was put off buying a new car, partly by the useless sales men, the fact that the cars that I tried, Civic, Auris, and GT86 were no more comfortable than my Corolla, and it passed the MOT after a small amount of work. So maybe next year.

    The best coil spring compressor

Brilliant, thanks garethpa. And if my original strut does not have a cutaway, maybe I could cut one with my Dremel.
