    Fixing to conservatory ridge beam

I didnt want to drill into that top flat part for fear of going through to the outside or otherwise damaging what is on the other side that I cannot really see. Otherwise, I like the idea :)

    Fixing to conservatory ridge beam

I want to get a solid fixing to the ridge of my conservatory to hang a projector . Not sure if there is anything available to do this, or if I need to construct something :D The projector and mount is about 3.5kg, and I'll need an extra bit of something to drop it about 90cm which might add...

    New hob - existing wiring

The 6mm cable went into a junction box that split it into a 6mm for the oven and 2.5mm for the hob. I have got some 6mm heat resistant flexible cable (as the hob manual "required") to replace that 2.5mm anyway.

    New hob - existing wiring

thanks for the links - will have a measure up, but I don't think there is much clearance behind the oven - certainly don't think a surface box would fit, the sunken box in the wall might just.

    New hob - existing wiring

ok, I know this has been done a million times but just checking! My existing electric hob is in real need of replacement so got a new one coming this week. The current hob is 6kW and there is a separate built under oven of 5.1kW. I have a 32A MCB, 6mm old colour cable via a cooker isolator...

    Central heating drain

So I found what looks to be a drain under the floor - it is a tap connected to the return pipe and the other side exits through the wall. However, it exits below the outside ground level so I can't see where it goes! Is it likely to run into some drain (there is a manhole cover not too far away...

    Cool radiators in one room

ok, so there are no radiators in series - which I understand to mean main flow into a rad, out of rad into next rad, out of rad into next rad etc. They are either between CH flow and return (you might say 2 and 8 are piped in parallel - this is how I thought all radiators were normally piped)...

    Cool radiators in one room

All radiators bled and system pressure checked - its a worcester greenflow highflow 440 combi boiler. It is only new to me, it is a 1960s build I think.

    Cool radiators in one room

Just moved into a new house and have a problem with two radiators which are only getting luke warm and no where near as hot as the others and really struggling to heat the rooms they are in. I've been under the floor which is quite easy to move around in for the most part and have traced as much...

    Worchester Bosch Highflow Greenstar 440

I'm hoping to move into a house with one of these floor standing boilers. Looks like... Looks old now but believed to function well and is due for a service before moving so no real concerns about it. Just wondering if things have moved on considerably since this boiler? Is there much to be...

    Leaking shower mixer?

well a good clean of the gap surfaces in the mixer control seems to have sorted the problem, for now at least. I've got a really good range from freezing cold to scalding hot :D I still think there might be a slight leak on the NRVs as when the bath tap is running just on hot and the shower is...

    Leaking shower mixer?

I took out the NRVs and gave them a rinse/wiggle and that seems to have resolved the bath problem - it is now mad hot and I'm getting nothing through the hot taps when cold feed to the boiler is isolated. However the shower still doesnt get past luke warm so will look at the thermostatic...

    Leaking shower mixer?

All has been fine with the shower and bath until the last few weeks where the bath mixer tap wont supply very hot water and the shower is often luke warm too, even when on max temp (reducing flow doesn't seem to help). All other taps seem to be fine - too hot to hold your hand under. A bit of...

    kitchen plinths and skirting boards

Having just had a kitchen installed and a new floor layed, all that remains is to install the plinths (by the kitchen fitters when I call them) and the new skirting boards (probably by me). There are just 2 points where skirting and plinths meet, at right angles, so which should be fitted first...

    New radiator pipes

I have a couple of new radiators that are replacing some old ones and in new positions so I will be running new pipes to them and I have a few options to mull over. It is in a ground floor room, currently exposed floorboards with a couple of foot underneath to the bare earth - once installed...

    moving inside socket outside

I will cut an access hole in the side of the base unit that will cover it up. I used a 45A DP switch

    moving inside socket outside

they did rewire most of the kitchen though :D The consumer unit is modern with RCD I saw the first fix which was all new cables to every other socket, existing locations and new additions - I am not sure why they didn't touch this socket. (probably because it wasn't on "the plan" and I never...

    moving inside socket outside

I'm fairly sure the guys that did my rewire didn't actually touch this socket - it was an existing socket they just haven't removed. (to be fair I didn't ask them to remove it)

    moving inside socket outside

my kitchen has been rewired and new kitchen more or less installed now. They have left an old single socket that is not being used and is behind the base units so of no use to anybody (it is still live). I was thinking about using the wiring to have an outside socket on the other side of the...

    Prv pipe

The boiler is in a kitchen that is just being renovated. The old boiler had the pipes boxed in close to the wall so thought the replacement would end up similar . Looking at the installation manual, it does state that the supplied prv pipe should be installed and "do not shorten". So he...
