    2 pole mains flex connector?

I have a tv on the wall in my kitchen and there is a largish hole in the wall behind but not big enough to fit a plug through (so it trails down the wall at the moment :D. Now I know I could just cut the plug off , thread the cable through and fit a new plug but that is going to be a pain if it...

    Damp wall

here are some images of the outside of the wall - looks a significant problem to me but enough to cause that amount of dampness inside? Any easy solution to this or will the whole deck have to come up to sort out the gap?

    Damp wall

Any thoughts on this dampness now I have pulled off the skirting board? This corner is an alcove between chimney breast on the party wall and external wall - the external wall being where the radiator is located. Looks quite long term dampness given the radiator is rusty in that corner - no...

    Getting under the floor

I want to get under the floor in an alcove of the kitchen/diner area of my house (to try and find the source of dampness rising up the wall) - this part of the room is a normal suspended wooden floor with laminate single planks over the top, then the skirting boards fixed over the top of the...

    roofer or builder?

ok I have removed the cover - there is lots of insulation above the cover which I have moved aside to try and get some air flow. I cannot feel or hear any airflow if I stick my head near the opening - should I? Perhaps I need to put some smoke near the opening and see if it gets swept up...

    Drain problems

cheers for that - is this something I need to do once everything has dried out (as I look out the office window it has just started raining :D) or might the dampness help the mortar?

    Drain problems

thanks Burnerman, kind of what I hoped for so shouldn't be too big a job as long as I can get behind that wall. Do you know what the back of the drain next to the wall might be made of - the bit that is broken? Looks like stone the way it looks layered where it is broken but very thin so maybe...

    Drain problems

As my house continues to give up its problems here is the next one! I pulled up the drain covers while cleaning out the soil filled gulleys and found the kitchen sink waste pipe broken off at the lions mouth (see the pictures - I have cleaned the grid too now!)...

    roofer or builder?

I believe there is a vent on that chimney but no saying it isnt blocked. If there was condensation wouldnt I see it coming down the inside of the chimney? The main fireplace is still there downstairs albeit with a cover screwed over the flue by the previous owner and some holes in the breast for...

    roofer or builder?

    roofer or builder?

thanks - porous where? This is a downstairs party wall between two semi-detached houses, the back external wall of the affected room looks dry outside with quite a big overhanging roof so that wall doesn't seem to get wet when it rains (unless it is driving rain in that direction).

    roofer or builder?

I have some damp walls in my newly acquired house, on an internal wall with a chimney breast. Previous owner said they had to have the flashing on the roof looked at a few years ago when a similar problem happened - is this a job for a roofer or a builder?

    Vokera Compact boiler problem

thanks! A service is definitely needed before the winter but I'd like to have an idea of any problems before somebody tries to rip me off with a part that doesn't need replacing ;) I know a guy that does Worcester boilers and serviced my previous house but not sure if he services other makes

    Vokera Compact boiler problem

ok, I would have increased the pressure straight away had I known where the filling loop was and if it didnt have a wall unit constructed around it! Once I took off the cupboard off I found the filling loop valve (and realised I could just reach it without removing the cupboard!) and topped up...

    Vokera Compact boiler problem

I moved into a house last week with a Vokera Compact HE boiler - hot water has been fine and no need for heating until the last couple of days. Put heating on yesterday, noting the pressure gauge was very low and promising to do something about that! CH and DHW fine last night and turned CH off...

    Indesit DIF04 dishwasher problem

ok, all looks fine inside the door - all the wires look intact, nothing too badly squashed under the horizontal metal bar and no chaffing of the wires as they disappear underneath the door hinge. I suspect perhaps the LED/button panel is faulty but is there any way to test that other than...

    Indesit DIF04 dishwasher problem

Sorry, at work at the moment so cant remember what fixings are on the door - there is the wooden panel on the front, do I go in that way or from the inside of the door?

    Indesit DIF04 dishwasher problem

I have just moved into a house with a DIF04 dishwasher - the problem is the control panel buttons don't seem to do anything. If I turn the machine off and on at the mains then it comes on and beeps, and closing the door starts the machine which then washes fine. Once the wash is over pressing...

    curved window frame

ok, whats the best way to remove the beading  I had a closer look on saturday and they are puttied in and the putty seems quite hard - no idea when they were done but I would say a long time ago! I dont want to wreck the frames by prising off with a chisel (I can see a couple of marks...

    curved window frame

yeah the unit is definitely square - what I was a bit worried about was if the curved bit was not removable and the glass was stuck to the inside of the frame it might not be easy to tap it out? I'll have to have a look this weekend. Is the best way to remove the existing beading to prise it off...
