    Washing machine waste??

If you want to avoid the build up of white crud you could stop using washing powder. Doesn't suit everyone, eg if your clothes get very messy. Look at http://www.ecozone.co.uk/ for Eco Balls (no it's not a Private Eye joke). I have used then for years but then I have a 'clean' job in an...

ChrisR, I'd love to hear your verdict on rusty nail

Hi ChrisR Many thanks for your advice. Since putting extra inhibitor in haven't had to bleed rads at all. Plus I found out from the instructions on the box that it's called venting - so now I know! Fixed the leaky rad myself, so no need to go down route of 'but you said the work was...

    Anyone got Stinger.exe?

Before the GREAT HARD DISK CRASH of yesterday I had Stinger.exe that someone had emailed to me. It was excellent for getting rid of the occassional embedded trojan that my antivirus and adware couldn't heal. Stinger.exe is a stand alone application that comes with Norton but I can't find a...

Hi folks Hope you can help. Yesterday my hard disk crashed and nothing was retrievable (guy in the pc shop couldn't even get the disk to be seen) so have a new hard disk and myriad of wee problems getting it all set up again. I'll post them here just in case they are related. Got Windows...

    The Pope

Trouble is that it's not just the Vatican teaching that condoms are bad because they are a means on contraception but there is an active programme to teach that condoms do not work. They teach that the AIDS virus is small enough to get through microscopic holes in the rubber and then cite the...

Rome airport closed. easyJet customers diverted

One of Rome's airports is being closed to enforce the no fly zone over a funeral. easyJet and Ryan Air flights are being diverted to another airport 130 miles away. Buses are being laid on but passengers have to pay for them. Presumably any insurance claims will be denied as it's an act of God.

Breach of security at Windsor castle

Two guys in a van with a box clearly marked 'BOMB' and a fake delivery note get into Windsor castle two days before a big event. The police are 'deciding what to do'. I hope they decide to make breaches of security like that a year round sport, plus any making a successful breach gets to...

Constructing a base for a shed

Sorry if this reply is a bit late but I used (soon to be banned) railway sleepers as bearers on compacted soil. Dug out and more or less leveled an area the size of the shed. Put sleepers in at gaps of about 12" - 14", levelling each one as I went. Just make sure you get the sleepers...

Where to by paving and a drainage question...

No Mason, it's not a post hole digger. It's a spade with two handles: one to drive the spade into the ground, the other to make it easier to lift the full spade out. Skellem - The guy has actually patented the spade so I don't think you'll find it on the web but if you drop me an email I can...

Dr who, did you see it

err, don't want to interupt your high brow appreciation of the female form, but alright if I join the discussion boys? Thought it was good for a first episode, made me laugh out loud a few times. Loved the use of the London eye as a source of evil control waves. But I thought the music HAD...

Where to by paving and a drainage question...

If you don't go for the digger then might be worth using a 'back saver' spade. It looks a bit odd with the normal straight shaft and D shaped handle off the top, but then it has another D shaped handle coming off at an angle at the front (looks like a lop sided Y from the side) which makes...

Rock dust - fab for garden, could stop global warming

Yeah it does. Resigned from my job yesterday so got four weeks gardening leave before the new one starts :D :D :D :D Might see if I can get some of the dust and, you know, have a trial, grow large onions and save the planet.

Rock dust - fab for garden, could stop global warming

Amazing article Eddie, wondered if it was 1st April for a minute there. Think it deserves its own topic so more people read it. Take a look at this folks http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/environment/story.jsp?story=622128

Sand for lawn aeration - sharp or not?

But the methods by which I keep the compost heap moist probably can't be discussed in this forum... but ... One day I was listening to a so called gardening expert on Vanessa Phelps' radio show. He was saying there was no benefit in p**ing on your compost heap, just convenient if you were...
