New floor tiles coming loose - pictures - opinions required.

Thanks gcol. I have the same mosaics in my wedi shower tray in the en-suite, and they've been there (in use) for the past year - whith no problems. Wedi said mosaics would be OK, provided a mould resistant grout was used. We used BAL - wich has mould resistant in it. The mosaics do need...

New floor tiles coming loose - pictures - opinions required.

Hi, Just finished a wedi wetroom. Wedi board on the floor and walls. Got a tiler in to stick the tiles to the floor and walls & grout. Floor adhesive: Ardex 5001. This is good stuff. Used for swimming pools. After 48 hours of the floor tiles going down, some of them (2) have come...

What are the building regs for a new underground drain?

Hi, Just added a new soil stack to the side of my house (4 inch). What are the regs for new underground soil pipes? Depth of excavations? Type & amount of gravel below & above the pipe? Type of pipe? Etc.. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Is this tile adhesive really waterproof?

Not quite a swimming pool, but close. The shower area is going to be tiled (wedi tray). I've got one of these in the en-suite, and after you shower, water sits on the tiles \ grout until it evapourates. The grout channels help draw the excess water to the drain, but some remains (it is...

Is this tile adhesive really waterproof?

Hi, I'll be getting my bathroom tiled shortly (ceramic). I want a waterproof tile adhesive (not water resistant). ToppsTiles seem to be in league with BAL, and B&Q seem to like Unibond. I rang the BAL technical helpline and asked for their offerings of waterproof adhesive. The only one...

Anyone got Kahrs (Engineered) wood flooring that squeaks?

Hi, Just had some Kahrs wooden flooring put down on the GF hallway (last few days). Before the fitter arrived, I pulled up the chipboard floor and secured the wooden joists. Then I glued (pva) the joints on the new chipboard (18mm) and glued the boards to the joists. Screwed the whole lot...

Mixing Dulux Trade Emulsion (Vinyl Matt) - bad idea?

Hi, I'm in the process of trying to match some Crown paint. The paint has been discontinued by Crown, so I though I'd give Dulux a try. Went into B&Q and they used their colour matching gun on a piece of painted wood, mixed up 15 litres of Vinyl Matt Trade emulsion. I'm impressed with...

Help replacing Newel Posts - pictures..

big-all: That's a very good point. If I make the posts symetrical, then there will be enough wood left for the pin hole. Should have thought of that one myself  Thanks.

Help replacing Newel Posts - pictures..

Hi, I'm hoping to have my pine (white painted) newel posts and spindles \ rail replaced with a hard wood alternative, so that they all match. The easiest way to do this is to replace them, but to do this, the floor has to be pulled up. This is bad news since I've just have the floors...

Help selecting new front door hardwood.

Hi, I'm trying to select a hard wood for my front door. I made an earlier post about this which did help: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=657038#657038 But after speaking to some more joiners and looking at examples, I'm beginning to see that there is a little more to all...

Poor fitting climaflex pipe insulation - normal?

NMC confirmed today that the insualtion I had purchased was out of spec. It is being replaced. FYI: I went to a few different stores to compare insulation. All the 9mm wall stuff was just as bad wherever I went. The fit to the pipe seems to get better as the wall thickness gets larger.

Poor fitting climaflex pipe insulation - normal?

The insulaiton is stamped 22mm. At 26mm, it's a very loose fit. Why not just stamp 26mm. The 22mm insulation that I pulled down from my (25 year old) loft fitted like a glove. Must be what they call 'Vanity Sizing'. Will speak with the company that makes it tomorrow.

Poor fitting climaflex pipe insulation - normal?

Hi, Just purchased around 75m of 22mm climafex pipe insulation (9mm thick). Got it home and started to cut it to length. When I place it over the pipes (have to cut it lengthways first to get it one the pipes ) it seems way too big for the pipe. On an un-cut piece of insulation I'm reading...

How to find flow & return on empty system?

I tried the ohm meter, but all the pipes have been earth bonded, so they are all electrically connected. I asked my neighbour to put here finger over one of the pipes in the garage and let go every 3 seconds while I blew down the pipe from the first floor; oh boy, did this work. After...

How to find flow & return on empty system?

Hi, I'm in the process of having a new central heating system installed. The pipework is copper and is drained down at the moment. I’ve opted for an unvented system. On the advice of the HE, I decided to replace all the rads, as they were 20+ years old, and some were rusting. I made...

One TRV to control 3 radiators - possible?

I don't envisage having to change the temp all that often, but having three rads within a few feet of each other on different walls (the thin tall type) , and having to fuss over three trv's when you do want to change the temp just smacks of poor planning. I will speak to my HE when he...

One TRV to control 3 radiators - possible?

Hi, I have 3 radiators in my kitchen. I could consolidate these into one radiator for the sake of simplicity, but the radiator would be so large it would look ugly. At the moment I have 3 trv's to adjust each time I want to alter the room temperature. Is there a product that lets you...

Plastering over a wooden loft hatch - how?

Hi, I'm about to have a large loft hatch (4ft x 2ft) put in one of my rooms. The hatch is spring loaded and has a ladder attached, so you just push it with a pole to unlock the door, then push it up again to clip it back into place. I want to try and minimise the impact of such a large...
