Building piers on top of a wall

Hi. I'm after a bit of advice on building some brick piers. I have a concrete block wall at the rear of my property. It varies between 3 and 4 foot tall and is 1 block (9 inches) wide. I want to increase the height to 6 foot all along. My idea was to build some brick piers on top of the wall...

    Ballast question

No, 600mm is correct. It's a foundation for a telescope pier. Most of the shed base will be around 100mm thick. But part of it will be 900x900x600

    Ballast question

I want to lay a thick concrete slab(600mm in places) as a shed base and intended to use a maxibag of ballast and cement. Many builders merchants seem to offer only ballast with small stones. More like a very coarse concreting sand, such as this from Travis Perkins...

    Sliding shed

Thanks for the ideas everyone, I had thought of slider rails but it was the clamping down that I was struggling with. I don't really want to be messing about with bolts if I can avoid it, especially if I need to clamp it down in the dark. However I did a Google of overcentre latch and all sorts...

    Sliding shed

I need to build a new shed in my garden. Only a small affair, about 4x3 foot. It's going to stand on a concrete slab. Straight forward enough you may think. Now the interesting bit. It's to house a telescope so I need to be slide (roll) the shed out of the way to use the scope. We are in quite...

    Fitting Bulk head lights

333rocky333 The old fittings only had two screws about 1.5 inches apart they didnt really support the light properly which was 12 inches in diameter. There was a marked gap between the fitting and the upvc. ban-all-sheds I did look at these but there is a rather large hole in the upvc where the...

    Fitting Bulk head lights

SFK good suggestion. I should of thought of that. Ban-all-sheds The house was about 15 years old when we bought it and the upvc was already fitted. Ive drilled some small holes to see whats behind and its just fixed to the rafters so long screws are no use. Im going to try self tapping screws...

    Fitting Bulk head lights

Yep. Thats great. Ive just taken another look. Now im not sure if the upvc is installed over wooden boards or directly to the rafters. If over boards i may just get away with some long screws. I think i am going to have to drill some exploratory holes.

    Fitting Bulk head lights

So this would be glued(?) to the front of the upvc then the light fixed to that, spreading the weight over a greater area?

    Fitting Bulk head lights

I need to replace an outside bulk head light as the old unit has failed. The light is to be attached to a upvc ceiling in an outside porch. Needless to say, the mounting holes are in different places on the new fitting. Are there any particular wall plugs for attaching fittings to upvc as the...

    Mixer Tap question

Thanks for the suggestionseveryone, Picked up these from Screwfix https://www.screwfix.com/p/swirl-deck-mounted-bath-shower-mixer-tap/28552 Took about 2 minutes to fix. Screwfix staff very helpful as usual. Only problem is I've now got to replace the wash basin taps to match.

    Mixer Tap question

Thanks Rob, Sorry I didnt reply earlier, been filling buckets with water, my attempt at a temporary fix to the cassette failed miserably. There looks like there are a few options on that site, get the wife to take a look - no worries about getting the hot water mixed up, I'm already up to my...

    Mixer Tap question

Terry Dunno if I've misunderstood you. The measurements were taken with calipers and are the nuts that I am pointing to in the photo, the diameter of the hole where the cartridge (Cassette?) fits is just over 40mm

    Mixer Tap question

Terry Thanks, hopefully less of a mission than trying to find a cassette, couldnt find anything even on the web. Hot and cold Yep, 150mm centres, non thermostaic - sounds promising. The spanner size for the nuts is about 30 mm and the thread size looks to be about 25mm, I am guessing (hoping)...

    Mixer Tap question

I have a bath/shower mixer tap which has started leaking. Unfortunately I am having trouble locating a new cartridge/cassette as the tap is probably about 15 years old. I dont really want to start removing bath panels (I think the previous owner seems to have made them a non removable fixture...

    Extending power to second shed

Neighbors hedge roots, rock and shed foundations.there is only about 250mm gap between boundary and power entry point. I've seen some of these articles, but not all, something to have a read through tomorrow. I have just been recommended a local electrician by a neighbor so I will give them a...

    Extending power to second shed

    Extending power to second shed

Nothing was being "cobbled together with a bit of scag cable". Which was why I put up the request for advice in the first place. If i had wanted to do that, I would have just run a long extension cable and plugged it into a socket in the existing shed. As I said in my earlier posts, the...
