    Pergola

I would like to build a pergola like this one in my back garden, I'm not a pro but I'm fairly competant, I just need some pointers, can anyone help please? 1/. What timber should I use? 2/. You see the support arms have a slight curve, how can I re-create these, I only have a jigsaw? I'm...

    Stepping Stone

I would like to put a few stepping stones down. I've worked out the height of them, they will need to be 150mm off the ground. I understand that a bedding mortar should only be about 50mm, what can I use to raise the height. I was thinking of; 50mm mortar bed, 50mm slab, then 50mm...

    New cement onto extg

Last year I cemented a few vertical sleepers into the ground (quite deep), it will be a long wall when it's done. I couldn't finish the job in one go so I used some timber shuttering to stop the cement pouring out. I'm about to carry on with the job, so I'll be removing the shuttering and...

    Getting plates off

I need to take the private number plates off my van and put them on my car (it's all been done via the DVLA). I'm thinking of carefully prizing them off with a firm wallpaper scraper, two questons; - is there a prefered way of getting the plates off so they can be used again (and not...

    Creases in ceiling

The third pic is a close-up of the other creases photographed. I push the boards and there is no movement.

    Creases in ceiling

This extension was built about 10 years ago (before I bought the house), nowadays skrim tape is used, did they use something else back then?

    Creases in ceiling

Now looking closely at the ceiling I can see the tape along all the boards, but most of it isn't creaseing (yet). I've never noticed it before. As the tape is failing do you think the ceiling was never skimmed in the first place? 'cos I shouldn't be able to see the tape through skim? Thanks.

Thanks Roughcaster. New tape and then have it re-skimmed!?

    Creases in ceiling

My ceiling is sort of creased in 3 areas, it's clearly where the boards ends meet, but not where the sides of the boards meet. I've pushed the boards and they don't move and the ceiling is flush. The creases feel like paper but I don't think the ceiling was ever papered. Does anyone...

    Stoping my car being stolen

Thanks for all the helpful posts, I know exactly what to do now. Mickeymoody - I've moved from Norfolk to London since registering on this site so they won't find the car there. And why would a car thief be more interested in taking it if they knew it was uninsured, especially if it has a...

    Stoping my car being stolen

I have just bought another car and transfered the insurance from the old one to the new one. So I now have my old car sitting on my drive - uninsured, until it is sold. Next year now, probably. I was going to buy a steering clamp or something, but then thought I might take the wheel off...

    Making a cupboard door

I really appreciate your help, but I don't want to use MDF. If I use battens to make the door, what timber should I glue each side? Ply? Thanks.
