Grundfoss pump: Opening the bleed screw

HW is working but CH is not. I recently had some TRVs fitted and system drained and refilled. Maybe there is air in the system? The CH pump in the loft is red hot. I was going to try to bleed the pump, but cannot open the top screw. Do I need a special screwdriver or tool for this? Its a...

nissan micra after break in help

I used to have an N-reg Micra and it didn't have any fancy keys or door locks. It used old-fashioned manual keys. So I suppose you can fit a lock from another car. You might end up with 3 keys (1 for the ignition, 1 for the door, 1 for other doors + boot + petrol cap). But I don't think...

Rear window brake light: drops down, fixing is loose

2001 Nissan Micra The rear window brake light has slipped down. The fixing on one side has let go. The fixing is a brass plate with holes, that locates with a rubber pad with nipples that is attached to the window. It's very fiddly to get in place. I think you are supposed to turn the brass...

Baumatic oven spares: cheaper 3rd party options?

Thanks for that. It looks like the lower oven element, beneath the oven, is also broken. So I might as well get a new oven. They are only 200 quid (see below). Any recommendations for online suppliers? What about these...

Baumatic oven: removing light bulb cover

I'm trying to replace the bulb in a Baumatic oven. The user manual says to twist the plastic cover anti-clockwise. But I've had no success. Is there a clip or screw on Baumatic ovens, that lock the cover in place?

    Online uPVC suppliers?

Can anyone recommend an online uPVC supplier? Some cowboys installed 9mm cladding on the fascia boards on my parent's house. The cladding has been coming away in parts ever since. In the recent high winds, a 3m section on the gable end has ripped off. The uPVC is gloss brown-coloured (not...

Jammed uPVC window: any DIY fixes?

The spindle is still attached securely to the handle. The internal mechanism looks like it's "floating". It's not secure at all. Maybe it's designed like that? I tried shoving the spindle in and rotating the nut. But no luck. There are 2 mushrooms on the bottom of the window.

Jammed uPVC window: any DIY fixes?

How do I remove the glass? (It might be best if I wait until next Spring to do this! Just in case, I can't get it back in!)

Cash Converters: Haggling for a price

kirkgas That's an eye opener. I thought they were strict about ID. Sounds like they are the local "fence" for stolen gear.

Cash Converters: Haggling for a price

Anyone ever bought anything from Cash Converters? Can you haggle with them over the price? I saw an acoustic guitar that I liked, priced at 99 quid. Would they take a cash offer, I wonder?

    LCD vs. LED TVs

    >In every case other than full HD on a 1920x1080 panel, the image will be resized to fit the display.< I guess the image is resized by adding pixels. So it may be best to buy a HD ready 1366x768 panel for non-HD viewing. Not as much resizing of the image.

New landline phone: always off hook?

I unplugged and then replugged the router cable in the telephone extension in the spare room. The phone is on the main socket. Voila! The dial tone returns and everything works OK.

    LCD vs. LED TVs

I don't like the sound of that. It's like some image editing software that adds pixels when it resizes an image. Surely an argument for sticking with a non-HD screen resolution if you have no intention of watching HD?

New landline phone: always off hook?

It's the same behaviour on the main socket and the extension socket. No dial tone/off hook. Reinserting the plug gives you a dial tone and lets you make a call. But that's all.
