What are the advantages of an outside temp sensor on boiler?

I recently had a Glow Worm Ultracom 30cxi combi installed. My installer said that there is an exernal temp sensor availble for this model and it would be worth fitting one. What are the advantages of this? (and where could I purchase the sensor)

How to stop modern toilet "running through"?

Thanks for the reply, however I have now lifted out the valve assembly and can see that it relies on it's own weight to bring the flap down after a flush. This is very marginal, as it is made completely from plastic. I think the valve was simply not coming down every time, so I have added some...

How to stop modern toilet "running through"?

We have a modern toilet with dual-flush press buttons on top of the cistern. When you flush it, it is now "running through" more often than not. By running through I mean that, after the initial flush, water continues to flow through to the bowl and the cistern continues to fill but never...

Should I leave expn gaps betwen plywood under floor tiles

My kitchen floor is suspended but quite firm. It previously had quarry tiles laid on the old 1950s lino and the grout never cracked. It is long and narrowish - 19ft by 8ft 6in. I am going to try to get away with 9mm ply, screwed at 10" centres, as I don't want the finished floor to be a lot...

    <£200ish Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

Morrik - I am thinking of getting the Evolution. Does it seem better than a real cheapo? Are the mitres accurate?

    glow worm spacesaver

I think the rad valves can sometimes leak - ours didn't. Replacing the odd valve is a lot cheaper than new pipework. I suppose it depends on the condition of your system and how much you want to spend.

My review of the Jetstream Venturi Shower

ah, but would it work if you converted to a combi :)

    glow worm spacesaver

Not sure what you mean by fitting, however we have just had a new combi fitted on a system which used to supplied by a Spacesaver. You can put a new boiler on old pipework and rads but you must have it powerflushed first and it is good practice to instal a "Magnaclean" device in the pipework...

To pre-heat or not to pre-heat, that is the question

Good point namsag - to be honest I couldn't believe this pre-heat thing when I first came across it, for the reasons you mention

My review of the Jetstream Venturi Shower

I did wonder about that, however we have had a few showers now and no shutdowns. Boiler can supply 12 l/min and I don't think we are exceeding that.

My review of the Jetstream Venturi Shower

Says in the manufacturer's literature "not suitable for combi boiler systems" (they are designed for low pressure hot suply)

To pre-heat or not to pre-heat, that is the question

After reading simond's reply, I read the main manual more closely and it is possible to set up a second channel on the programmer to time pre-heat (this is not stated in the users manual). I have set it for morning getting-up time only.

To pre-heat or not to pre-heat, that is the question

Thanks for the replies. In reality, a quick swill of the hands in the downstairs loo would probably not bring hot through even with pre-heat, due to the distance. With a shower or bath, the amount of water wasted in proportion to that used would be reatively little. All down to personal...

To pre-heat or not to pre-heat, that is the question

New Glow worm Ultracom 30CXi combi. Came configured with DHW pre-heat enabled. I have disabled it, as surely this must use quite a lot of gas over a year? What do you think?

My review of the Jetstream Venturi Shower

The installer said "just try it", so I didn't make any changes. Cold is still coming through the venturi nozzle, however it is now at a lower pressure, as the installer fitted a pressure reducing valve near the water meter (all cold taps in our house are on mains, so the whole system feels...

My review of the Jetstream Venturi Shower

For those of you who have one of these and thought you may have to get rid of it because of a change to a combi boiler - think again. The old boiler was installed 27 years ago and the wife wanted it moved from the kitchen, as part of a kitchen refurb. Our installer from 27 years back was...

How to fit kichen plinth so as to be removable?

I will have an integrated dishwasher in the middle of a run of units. I want the plinth to be removable for obvious reasons. How do you suggest I secure it?
