If you have a standard flue, as opposed to a balanced flue, your boiler needs air for combustion from the room it is in. Too little air coming in = too much carbon monoxide. NB an expelair type removes air, your boiler needs an incoming source of air. Don't gamble with your life. Get vented.

sorry for the slow uptake, just clicked, turn off each fuse in turn which will tell me which lights are on which circuits. The ones on the faulty circuits are the likely culprits right?

Has anyone got any views on 'balancing the system' if it contains TRV - surely the flow is changing all the time as the TRV's adjust! Steve

you should chek that ther is power to the fan by taking off the frunt cover, you will need a per of test probs raytad at 1000 volts (BS), then check for power betwene live and nutral, if you donot have 230 volts (UK) then ther is brak between the light swich and the fan, if you do have power...

I think you're right, I've just checked the live switched live to earth and that has 240v aswell so there is power there. Maybe you could answer my other questions aswell. One: If i have left a neutral disconnected somewhere why doesn't this stop other lights further down the circuit working...
