    Structural steel connection

Thanks, I've dropped a note to building control to ask if he can pass the pictures to his in house engineer to check. I'll also get another engineer to take a look. Will let you guys know what they say.

    Structural steel connection

SE calcs just say connections to steel fabricators design. SE doesn't care, he's got his money, done his calcs, job done.

    Structural steel connection

Hi all, Can anyone tell me if this connection is normal practice. This column has a plate on and picks up 2 twin bolted beams coming in at 90 degrees, as can be seen here... The beam that comes in from the left sits directly ontop of the column welded to the plate. The beam coming in from...

    Whole House boiler installation

Thanks guys, I realise it's a "how long is a piece of string" question, yet thought I'd get at least a ball park understanding. It's for all intents and purpose a new build so everything a black canvas and easy to install all piping etc. I've had another guy out tonight anyway that does baxi...

    Services into building

Ah! So this is how it works... Feel more comfortable with that now. The pipe is lagged in a thick black hard material, not sure what it's called sorry, but assume to protect the steel pipe. Looked in good condition when I looked at it. Thanks very much. One last question... If the builder...

    Services into building

So is the method of installation acceptable? I've spoke to the builder and he said they will cut it out as sleeve it if I want, yet didn't seem to feel it was an issue the way it had been embedded in the concrete because it was lagged.

    Services into building

Thanks, yes I'm a bit annoyed by this given that now the concrete is poured there is no easy asy out. On the electrics, assuming they have put conduit along the whole cable then I'm fairly comfortable with this, yet I'll never know! Ok it's the wrong colour but I'm not concerned about that...

    Services into building

Hi, Been having soon building work done (extension and renovation) and things seem to have gone fairly well up to now. Anyway, I had an existing suspended timber floor taken out and filled with concrete to convert to solid. Under the previous suspended floor was a 400mm void and the gas...

UFH and towel rad in same room

Thanks, how do your thermostats work? Assuming you have 1 for the radiator and 1 for the underfloor heating.

UFH and towel rad in same room

Hi, I'm currently doing a major renovation and extention in which I plan to have a downstairs shower room. In a situation where I want wet UFH in the shower room (zone) yet also a towel radiator, how would this be managed to prevent one overriding the other? Likewise I have a utility room I...

    Wall ties?

Actually panic over! If I zoom in really close I can see the ties. They are really thin so didn't notice them on the photo!

    Wall ties?

The floor is currently down about 450 below inner FFL so assume plenty of space for the sub base, concrete, installation and screed, hence why you see soil at that level. The foundations are trench filled 1+m. There is then a line of block laid flat to increase the found height, then 4 brick...

    Wall ties?

    Really?

    Wall ties?

It's going to be solid concrete floor. I'm just wondering why they have gone so high without starting ties. Surely these can't be put in once the outer leaf is laid, as the mortar would have set by the time the inner leaf starts.

    Wall ties?

Hi, I'm currently getting an extension built and noticed that the section of wall that if currently going up is only outer leaf and no wall ties are being set for when the inner blockwork is also added. Is this normal procedure?... Thanks.
