PTFE Tape & Shower Mixer Bar

cheers Madrab - already ruined 1 pair of washers by overtightening! i am going to try again this evening and not tighten too much. Will there be an issue that the 's-connectors' are not exactly 150mm centres? i can get the threads of the shower on and tightened - just wondering whether this may...

PTFE Tape & Shower Mixer Bar

Hi there, having a few problems fitting a shower mixer bar. I have fitted backboard type connectors to a board between the studs. I then wrapped PTFE tape around the threads of the 's-connectors' and screwed them in to backboard elbows. I have screwed then in as far as they can go and they are...

    Laying a shower tray

So.....(big deep breath!)...next problem. I have cut a hole in the floorboards for the waste but where this is, there is no support for the tray. I was thinking of trying to get a piece of ply bove the pipes and fill the gap. This is tricky as the tray is now stuck down and the only access is...

    Laying a shower tray

so i presume that when i used the driwall adhesive, i just didn't put enough down - or it was too solid a mix to allow it to take with the underside of the tray. i put loads of the tile adhesive down - i used a 20kg bag with 3.5l of water for a shower tray that is 1390x900.

    Laying a shower tray

i did, it was from Victoria Plumb, i have since spoken to them and they said to lay a cement bed. I took BathsNGas advice and bought some floor tile adhesive ( http://diy.com/departments/mapei-large-format-powder-floor-tile-adhesive-grey-20kg/38143_BQ.prd ) and laid that onto a build up of 5mm...

    Laying a shower tray

Thanks, does that hold the tray in place? Is it that that 'glues' the tray down and stops it from moving?

    Laying a shower tray

So i have a large(ish) shower tray and a floor that is not level! there is roughly a 20mm fall over the length of the 1400mm tray. My idea is to build up in steps the floor with layers of 3mm plywood so that a spirit level will sit level when placed across the build-up. Then, i believe i need...

Is plumbers mait required on shower waste?

Yeah - 2 screws, i have since read reviews and that seems to be peoples beef with it...but others say it works great! I think i just gotta be careful not to over tighten them. No need for plumbers mait underneath then?

Is plumbers mait required on shower waste?

I have a 'twisto' 90mm waste with a black rubber ring to go around the waste and beneath the tray, there is then a white collar to go above the tray with 2 screws to hold them together. My question is....is the a completely dry fitting or should i put plumbers mait between black and underside...

15mm JG pushfit pipe inserts needed??

i have used plastic pipe, i will go around and insert the inserts post-haste! don't want any leaks!!! thanks for speedy response :) *EDIT* - i like to learn as i go - are the inserts just to provide extra rigidity for the push fit to compress against?

15mm JG pushfit pipe inserts needed??

hi everyone, just getting the water supply in for new shower position. do i need the pipe inserts for JG pushfit connections? someone said about them to me today but it doesn't suggest you do need them on the packaging of the elbows i have? thanks, i guess this will be a quick and easy...

    Shower Refurb

Thanks b17nns. It does seem to be the stuff! I was looking at other water proofing things and wasn't sure if they would work as well as that kit. Something like this... http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Bitumen-Damp-Proof-Membrane-Liquid-5L/p/151458

    Shower Refurb

i have seen the special cement board screws for fixing. i am still a bit confused as to the best way to proceed. Am i likely to get problems if i use the water resistant plasterboard (with taped joints) and then tile adhesive directly on top of that? I am now looking into a damp proof paint to...

    Shower Refurb

I have read lots about hardiebacker boards for shower areas where tiles will be used. I also read about tanking the area....i thought that if i put hardiebacker onto the studs and then position the shower tray against this with a silicone seal around the joint, then tile to 3 or 4mm above the...

Flat Roof Bay Window Lead Flashing - Leaking

now i look again at my photos, there does seem to be quite a gap between the stones - would this be filled with mortar? i am a novice at external work! i was going to get some mortar, scrape all the existing mortar that is currently holding the lead in place, then replace with new mortar - now i...
