It's just been pointed out to me that doing it this way, the scaffolding for the loft would have to go partly into my neighbour's garden, so I don't think I'll be donig it this way after all.

I'm liking the look of Kloeber aluminium French doors at the moment, although I've yet to check what the price difference is between these and bifolds. I like the sound of aluminium French doors with glazed panels either side.

This might be a silly question but we use a gas boiler that fires up on demand and the hot water goes into a storage tank. The boiler has it's own thermostat (1-6) that regulates the temp of the water it heats. There is also a thermo on the storage tank set to 60 deg. But what's the point of...

The best I can describe it is fibrous cotton wool, or even candyfloss, you cold say. Not matting or rope. Is asbestos wool used these days? It's a very modern fireplace.

We have a modern gas fireplace (previous owner's) that has heat retaining, artificial 'rocks' sitting on top of a layers of woolly fibre that is in a cut-to-shape sheet. Whats the correct term for this and where would I go to get it replaced (it's a bit old and manky) I've been googling...

If this kind of system is not allowed any more, what are you meant to do about it? I am also in a 1930s house and have the same system - bath waste water goes into hopper and then into an open drain. No smells (yet) but it's not a very good system.
