Worcester Bosch regular system -v- combi

As it happens the cylinder was replaced a few months ago as it was leaking. I don't know the lifespan of cylinders, but this should be good for a few years now.

Worcester Bosch regular system -v- combi

She has decided to replace her existing Potterton boiler as it is 25 years old and understands parts are no longer available. Being elderly she wouldn't want to wait a few weeks for a new boiler in the winter. She has a 3 bed bungalow with bathroom and shower - a combi would be suitable for her...

Worcester Bosch regular system -v- combi

My mother has had quotes in for replacing her existing regular system boiler with a Worcester Bosch Greenstar Ri15. The heating engineer who she would like to instruct has said he will charge approximately an extra £550 for taking out tanks, changing pipework if she wants a combi system (which...

Will Worcester Bosch Ri15 provide enough heat?

My mother has a three bedroomed bungalow (10 radiators). She has had a quote from an engineer who will install a Worcester Bosch Greenstar Ri15 (which provides minimum output of 5kw, maximum 15kw heat) which she would like to accept. Can anyone tell me if this will provide sufficient heat for a...

Combi boilers and hot & cold fill washing machines

I have a washing machine which is connected to the hot and cold water supply. When filling the machine for a 40 or 50 degree wash it does not draw hot water from our combi boiler. However, carried out a rare 90 degree wash the other day, and it did. Does the machine heat up the water...

    Vacuum cleaner recommendations please

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a cylinder vacuum cleaner. It must have a combined cable/hose length of at least 8m. Anything like bagless, washable filters, usable on hard floors would be great but not essential. Our Dyson lost it's suction after two years and we were told this...

    Could this be carbon monoxide?

    Could this be carbon monoxide?

I have just noticed a black sooty mark above our boiler. The expansion vessel and electrical circuit boards are on this side of the boiler, with the burner on the opposite side. Is this likely to be carbon monoxide, or do the walls tend to look a bit dirty around a boiler if they have been...

    Boiler recommendations please

Our engineer will be calling later to assess a problem with our combi boiler, but we think the time has come for a new one. He has always favoured a Valliant or Worcester Bosch. Due to a compact area, we need something no larger than 440mm width, 350mm depth and 710mm height. We need something...

    Removing candle wax from worktop

big-all - the worktop is laminate with a very fine grain (ie not smooth and shiny on top), so the wax has soaked into the grain.

    Removing candle wax from worktop

The other day, I split candle wax on our new worktop. Although, the wax has been removed from the top surface, the wax split can be seen where it has become ingrained into the surface. Any ideas for removal that won't harm the surface any more?

Ideal Response - pump gone again?

We had the pump replaced on our Ideal Response 100 combi about ten months ago. During the last week, various noises have been heard in the area of the pump, either a weak fan noise or a rattling one, sometimes none at all. It can also be heard in the fan area, but is much stronger in the...

Help - emulsion paint on tiled floor

Thanks for your comments. I've tried white spirit which didn't work, so I will give the cellulose thinner ago, unless anyone still thinks they have a better idea.

Ideal Response 120 loses pressure, therefore water, but how?

We had a similar problem with our Response 100 and had to top up the system a couple of times a day. Our engineer replaced a couple of smaller parts first and pumped the system up three times, but all the way along had said the expansion vessel had gone and it had a minute air leak. We didn't...

    Ideal Response Boiler losing Pressure

We had a similar problem with our Response 100 last year. The system was regularly reading 0bar, we were topping it up and it was leaking outside. As it got worse and the heating was reading 3.2bar the pipes in the house started to creak with pressure, so I'd get it sorted. Our engineer said...

    Gas consumption

Thanks for your comments Ltnman. We have a two bed house (with cavity wall insulation) so it sounds like we're not getting best economical use from our boiler. Does anyone think our costs would go up much if we ran the boiler all evening and more at weekends? ie, is it cheaper to just run...

Our meter is in cubic meters, so it could be the other system to which I refer is cubic feet.

    Gas consumption

A recent posting has caused me to think about our gas consumption. We have a 28kw combi boiler. If it runs for an hour it uses approximately one unit of gas, which I think equates to 10kw. Does this sound right? We have our heating on approximately 4 hours a day in winter and with hot water...

New boiler has resulted in increased Gas usage

I would say you are doing fairly well to be using only five units a day if your system is running 24 hours. Would anyone agree? We have our heating on approx four hours a day and use approx 4 units which I think equates to about 40kw.

Ideal Response 120 high flow Combi

We have an Ideal Response 100 and I think the best thing is to get a professional in who knows what they are talking about. Our expansion vessel went last year. We kept having to top the system up to 0.5bar and when the heating was on, it was rising to 3.2bar and water was leaking outside, not...
