Our engineer will be calling later to assess a problem with our combi boiler, but we think the time has come for a new one. He has always favoured a Valliant or Worcester Bosch. Due to a compact area, we need something no larger than 440mm width, 350mm depth and 710mm height. We need something suitable for a larger two bedroomed house, using the bath about once a day. Can anyone recommend a Valliant or Worcester Bosch which would serve our needs(we trust our chap, but it's would be good to have a second opinion)?

I always say choose the boiler and adjust the bkitchen to enable it to fit.

The danger is that you will be pointed towards a GlowWorm boiler that has a rear flue that pretty much makes it one of the smallest boilers. But its not many installer's choice!

Manufacturers design their boilers to do the job efficiently and not to fit in the smallest space! Part of that design is that they have adequate space for maintenance and changing any failed parts.

Most top quaility boilers are slightly larger than the figures you quote. eg Vaillant Ecotec Plus are 440mm wide and 720mm high, but on top of this you need installation clearances, as with all boilers, to facilitate servicing etc.

In Vaillants case you will need 450mm width and don't forget that as the flue is off the top of most boilers now, you will need to add at least 150mm to the height measurement and generally 200mm below the boiler as a minimum.

There are slightly lesser quality boilers such as the Broag that are smaller, so google them and take a look.
