    car tax and mot

LooPrEvil, some un-adopted roads may still be public highway. The Road Traffic Act version of 'highway' is different to the Highways Act. As I understand matters, a vehicle must be insured if on a place where the general public may normally visit. This would include un-adopted roads...

    Vectra rear suspension

On my 1999 Vectra, 156,000 miles now, the rear suspension, nearside, has become a bit squeaky. Anyone know what may be the reason for this, and can anything be oiled, etc, to cure it? Any advice much appreciated, thank you.

    UHU glue on car dashboard

You could just leave it well alone, since the effect of sunlight on it may degrade it over a few weeks (assuming its not in complete shadow). I wouldn't try nail varnish remover, which is acetone, it may effect the dashboard material itself.

    Power options, standby and hibernate.

Monsterminty, thanks for reply, but why should I not use hibernate mode? I thought it was common practice. Will change settings though, see if it works.

    Power options, standby and hibernate.

My PC has been set to go to 'standby' in 10mins, and 'hibernate' in 20mins. Been like this for many months, but now has ceased to standby or hibernate at all. I cannot figure out why, have checked the settings. Any advice much appreciated, thank you.

    Indesit FID20 built-in oven

All fixed OK Sunday morning, hot oven again now. Tips! - Not too difficult, but do need clips or something - blobs of blu-tak! - ready to stop wires falling back when disconnecting the old element. Not much slack on wires either.

    Indesit FID20 built-in oven

I installed this oven three years ago in a kitchen re-fit, and yesterday evening it seems the heating elements have failed, it is not cooking, only the fan running. Does anyone here know if these are easily replaceable? Or is it a case of a new oven? Bit annoying, it cost £500. Any advice...

    On-line fraud

Design and build contract or appoint my own architect first?

From my experience, I advise try to find a locally-based architect or building designer, they should have a 'feel' for the buildings in the area. I would not recommend a design and build package, best to keep them seperate. Also, draw-up an outline of your ideas first, then invite the local...

Office 2007 - WORD default font

Thanks for replies. I tried this, but when Word closed, then opened again, reverts to 12 size font. I do not know why, as Word 2002 could change defaults this way. Bit odd.

    Banking trouble

What interests me, is how this happens in the first place, since apart from the 16-digit no. of the card, the retailer concerned needs the small 3-digit no. from back of card, before the account is activated. Leaves me a bit bewildered actually. Perhaps the 'leakage' of card information is from...

    Banking trouble

Checking latest bank statement, there were nine payments to a well-known on-line retailer last month which I did not make. I have account with that retailer, but payments are from a different bank. I have stopped card, and phoned and written to bank with details. I am now wondering, will I be...

Date and time in folder name

When a new folder is created, it's called 'New Folder', then we right click to re-name it. Is it possible, to insert date and time as part of the name by using just two key-strokes? I thought it was, but have forgotten how. Any advice much appreciated, thank you.
