Hi, I have to install a washing line post, it is galvanised steel,2.4meters long. I want to use postmix concrete to secure it, can anyone please advise how deep would I need to dig a hole and how wide would the hole need to be. Also, are there any tips on how to use the postmix as I understand...

    Moss on roof

Thank you so much for all your replies, I've taken all the information in. I am not accepting his offer, gut feeling he just didn't appear at all professional, and quoted without looking at the back roof which I thought was very odd, apart from me being not sure it needs doing. For the time...

    Moss on roof

I have a two bedroomed terrace house and a local person has contacted me suggesting he clean the roof of the moss and seal it - not sure what seal it means. Can anyone please advise, is it necessary to have the roof tiles cleaned of moss and I also notice some bits of grass growing there...

    Paint Advice Please

Thank you very much for your reply, I know now where I am headed! I would never have thought of Osmo Oil and didn't realise Dulux wasn't as good as Dulux Trade. Again, many thanks.

    Paint Advice Please

Hi, I inherited a dark red wall in the lounge of my home, an old cottage, and would like to paint it a much lighter colour. It has a gloss finish. Can anyone please advise the sort of paint I would need to cover this and which would make it much lighter. There is too much of it to sand down or...

    Fire Grates

Thank you both for your replies. The tulip grate from gr8fires looks hopeful. I don't think I had tried them. The basket measurements of my present one are slightly smaller so I will measure the grate opening to see if it will fit. Otherwise, welding may be the answer. Thank you both for taking...

    Fire Grates

Thank you for your replies. I looked at e bay but they have mainly the sort that curve up at the front and because of the 'teeth' on the inside of the grill front part of my surround, a curved top of basket would not fit. I attach photos of the now broken one, I could only find a soup tin of the...

    Fire Grates

Not sure if this is the right place to ask. I have to replace the fire basket in my old Edwardian/Victoria fire surround. The present basket, (old - broken) one is flat, with three legs, bowed at the front. Measurements are roughly 13.5" across the front, 10" across the back, 8" deep. I have...

    Loft Hatch Lock

Hi Everyone, You will be very pleased to hear I'm sure, that I managed to open the loft hatch. After trying various options, I convinced it with a very big thump and down it came. The catch badly needed oiling so have done that now but thank you everyone for your help.

    Loft Hatch Lock

Actually, I do have a bolster chisel but it's a bit heavy to carry around. I will try the broad blade and hammer, I'm just a bit worried about the hatch coming down on my head so will have to be very careful and attack out of range of the hatch coming down. Many thanks.

    Loft Hatch Lock

Thank you both for your replies. I tried the thin knife but didn't get anywhere with it. I will have to try again and I will have to break the hatch if I can't open it, then change the fitting for something more suitable. Yes, I really was wobbling on top of the ladder, it had to be right next...

    Loft Hatch Lock

Hi, I have one of these loft hatches with the lock where you just push the hatch up to close and it fastens or you push it up further to open. Unfortunately, it doesn't now seem to work and I can't get it open however much I try to push the hatch up, it will only go up about half an inch and the...

    Painting Internal Walls

I am painting the walls in a papered room with Dulux Walls and Ceiling paint. After doing one wall, I can see strips of overlapping paint from top to bottom where I have completed one length and gone on to the next which is spoiling the finished job. Is there any way I can prevent this...

    Paint Brushes

Gentlemen, I really appreciated your comments about the various brushes. I bought both and have found each has it's own benefits. From the Dulux Decorator Centre I bought one of their 1.5" and from Wilkos bought a pack of various sizes. The 2" Wilko brush (red and black) is very good. For me...

    Paint Brushes

Hi, Can anyone please advise me of the best paint brushes to buy that are not too expensive. I have spent a lot of time preparing woodwork, skirting boards, doors etc., and the brushes I am using at the moment are tending to leave brush lines which I don't much care for and is spoiling the look...

    Dulux Trade Interior Woodstain

I have just been told I need an olborne wood primer/undercoat before the woodstain, would you think that is really necessary on veneer? It is a big cupboard and a lot of work for me but I don't really want to cut corners.

    Dulux Trade Interior Woodstain

Thank you Sparkwright, the wood has quite a grain in it so I was worried about spoiling it by sanding but I have an off cut that I will try the woodstain out on first. Many thanks for your reply.
