    Which nail gun?

Hi chaps, Considering using a nail gun rather than hammer to attach 200 fence pales to the rails for a picket fence. Guess I'll need two nails per rail per pale, so 4 per pale, which is 800 nails. No thanks. Question is, what type of nail gun do I want to hire? I know many will be too...

Nail gun or hammer for picket fencing?

Hi Guys, I have a fair amount of picket style fencing to complete in the next few days. Currently built all the frame (posts and rails) and now need to attach nearly 200 pales. To stop twisting, I had assumed two nails per rail for each pale, so that is 4 nails a pale. Adds up quickly. I had...

Mortar colour/ dark and light cement

Hi guys, On a number of occasions I have seen mortar or sand and cement that varies in colour. Not talking about additives, just a lighter grey vs darker grey. Apart from the obvious sand colour, can the cement product vary between manufacturers. About to build a small brick wall and have...

Very confused about estimator calcs for brick wall

Thanks NewBoy, but you beat me to admiting my stupidity.... Just clicked what I was doing wrong! Yes I summed my heights and lengths to create the 1 part wall, which clearly created a larger number in terms of meters sq.. Sorry for wasting anyones time. That's 30 seconds of your life you...

Very confused about estimator calcs for brick wall

Hi Guys, Completely confused about the methodology all of the sand cement calculators use for estimating the amount of materials required for building a brick wall in terms of sand and cement. I have tried a number of different ones, but get the same answer every time. My project is a...

Is concrete still 'softish' once set but only 36 hrs old

Update, but relatively easy in the end. Drill a bunch of holes, which seemed harder than I thought. Then stuck one of the curved chisel bits and it was like a knife through butter... Feel so much better knowing it is vertical now.

Is concrete still 'softish' once set but only 36 hrs old

Thanks Joe. Not entirely wrong. I am pretty sure someone gave it a knock while walking along the verge last night. My mix wasn't very wet at all, possibly could have been drier, but dry enough. Could leave, it as is, but too much of a perfectionist..

Is concrete still 'softish' once set but only 36 hrs old

Hi guys, Odd one here. Set a fence post last night and appears to have tilted before the concrete set. Bugging the hell out of me. Reckon the concrete is softer than rock hard after 36 hrs? Ie, if I use an SSS and large drill bits and then a breaker?

    Removng a kitchen sink tap

Morning all, Quick question re the replacement of a mixer kitchen sink tap. Had a look under there last night and it's basically a little worn and old and there appears to be a leak around the seal onto the sink. Decided to replace the entire tap and connecting flexible hoses. Question...

Choise of ceiling grilles/vents for in line extraction

Hi Guys, Not sure of the best forum, but will try here and building. Anyone got any views on the better of the ceiling mounted vents for ducted extraction in a bathroom? There seem to be two popular options. One is the grille type, i.e. lots of small holes and the other is a circle in a...

Hi all, Busy plannign to install some picket style fencing in the front of my property and curious as to the order/method of installing mortice posts with rails. Do you set the posts the correct distance apart and are the rails flexible enough to bend/force into the posts or do you set...

Sealing external pebble dash/render non glossy stabaliser

Hi Guys, Hoping this is the right forum as I've had no response elsewhere. I have had an extension pebble dashed and had the sides sealed and painted, but decided to leave the rear as raw pebble dash as we liked the look. The sides first had stabaliser applied and were then painted. The...

Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

Day 2 and the system is still fully pressurised! Touch wood, the problem has fixed itself. Whether it be the leak sealer or draining the system and refilling it perhaps rebedded the joint and leak. Probably untrue, but last night I was thinking about the consequences of your warnigns not to...

Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

Thanks Agile, Re standards for boiler in loft, they are all there, but still an effort :? If I have further problems I guess the next best is to get your items checked. Probably the best thing I could do right now is to take out boiler insurance with BG or Vailant. At least if...

Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

Agile, Could have done with you saying that earlier, but too late now anyway. I spoke to the technical support at Sentinel and Fernox and both confirmed it can be used with the boiler and type of fittings. The stuff is designed to work with pressure release valves and the particles small...

Central heating loosing pressure - Leak sealer

All, Thanks for the responses. re information about the leak, all I can say is what I said in my post. The pressure was being lost over 2 weeks and then 1 week and yesterday evening I had lost it after 1 day. No sign of the leak on any ceilings or joins, so I assume it is under the floor...
