    Gas Safe Registration

Is there any reason why an engineer would not freely supply a customer with his registration no.?

    Boiler installation problems

It gets worse!! white pipe going outside to the drain from the boiler has leaked water down the wall on the inside to the decorative cladding below and warped it. Took the pipe apart and instead of using 21.5 overflow pipe, instead I find 20mm white plastic electrical conduit in 21.5 fittings...

Is £8 per square metre about right

basically kitchen remodel, so tile adhesive and some bare blockwork as well as wire chases to deal with. However the £8 was quoted without seeing any of this and was just simply a figure as an all in price I think

What checks does a Gas safe engineer do?

Water pipes look ok. Wiring was well below any standard to my untrained eye. Gas pipe, I was told would enter the house via a 22mm hole with the 15mm sheathed in a short length of 22mm copper presumably for protection. This is not the case and is 15mm in a 20mm hole with silicone at ends...

What checks does a Gas safe engineer do?

This isn't a post from somebody doing DIY gas. Could somebody explain what checks a registered gas safe and all round professional plumber would carry out on a distubed and subsequently re-configured gas line to a boiler? I have had some work done and I am a little concerned

    Boiler installation problems

Thanks very much for your help. I have now solved it, it was the fault of the wiring that he had done. The switched live coming from the live is in fact connected to a yellow/green wire in a 3-core coming from the loft from the cylinder stat. However in his wisdom he has atempted to tidy...

    Boiler installation problems

No money passed hands yet i'm glad to say!! Are you saying that the boiler should fire up when connected via a 3-pin plug temp. fix and that the stats, controllers etc will simply prevent it from doing so as required??

    Boiler installation problems

As I thought but just confused. Boiler has only been moved 6' feet and 2 pipes and 2 3-cores wires extended, all other wiring and plumbing is as was which was all working fine. I have removed the wire going to 'R' from the earth block and when this wire is temporarily connected to a permanent...

    Boiler installation problems

Is any body about to help with a query over the wiring of this. Boiler doesn't run and instead blows fuses. Terminal in boiler marked 'R' has been connected to permanent earth by the installer, is this right, the gloworm download describes it as going via 'system controls' i.e programmer...

    Ceiling lights

Ok, whats the middle ground, not interested in fluffing up the lighting in this kitchen, the facts are:- 1] 5m x 5m space 2] will have dark gloss worktops, light coloured walls and floor 3] ceiling to floor height is only 2280mm so no chandeliers possible. 4] need to focus lighting in...

    Ceiling lights

Not sure of the link between power used by a lamp vs. lumen output, was just asking as to whether any of the professional electricians has experience of wiring in downlighters recently in a similiar sized space and if so how many were there?? I'm not in agreement by the way that this space...

    Garage conversion

So in that case would I be better off calling it a hobby room for a model train set or something as equally tranquil rather than a utility room do you think?

    Garage conversion

Yes it would be opening from the porch which you have to go through to exit the front of the house. How does its differ from the lounge door for example which is not a fire door?

    Ceiling lights

They seem fine to me, would 20 of them be enough to light a 5m x 5m kitchen do you think? Do you know what fitting limitations there are with these lights with regard to insulation etc?

    Garage conversion

New doorway is through the porch which is on the front of the house. From the porch there are three doors, one to the garage, front door and then the main door to the main body of the house.

    Ceiling lights

I wish to fit flush mounted ceiling lights into my new kitchen. Part of the roof void is only 4 x 2 joists so the builder has said I need to look out for some lights which would be ok to fit into this void. Where do you suggest I start looking for this type of light??

    Garage conversion

My house has an integral garage which is 1/3rd protruding out with the remaining 2/3rds under the bathroom. I have recently had a doorway cut into the front section of the garage to house my kitchen temporarily while I build a new kitchen. Now that I have done this I am keen to keep the...

    Lintel Move Possible???

Wondered if I could get some advice regarding a lintel that has been bugging me since I moved in In my last house I had an extension put on the front of the kitchen and when I asked how we could disguise the original lintel for the then removed window the builder suggested that we remove it...
