Hi all Whats the biggest a window sash can be before its too heavy to be swiveled/hinged? I want a big window, but also one that can be opened to allow ventilation. Thanks

How to clean window mechanisms after install

I know - Id dearly love to. The install was a complete bodge, the windows look awful, the installer was belligerent, there's been no courtesy 'sign off' - ie: I dont know how to use the mechanisms to open the windows to clean them etc... (I know I can just YouTube it). I dont think FENSA will...

How to clean window mechanisms after install

What best to get the stickers off the actual windows? Peel them off and then soapy water to remove the sticky residue? Im reticent to use nail polish etc... in case it marks the windows!

How to clean window mechanisms after install

Yes, the debris was through installation, but the installers were an absolute nightmare. Poor installation, bad advice, passive aggressive. I should be within my rights to get them to clean everything but I dont trust them at all.

How to clean window mechanisms after install

Hi all, The new casement windows and vertical sliders have been installed. Theres dust and bits of render and plaster in the mechanisms that the installer said Id have to clean out or it will break the mechanisms. Whats the best way to do this? Vacuum cleaner? Is there any lubricant that can be...

    Sell house half finished?

Thanks kevinsmbuk. Everything will be signed-off (electrics, windows, building, stoves etc...) so hopefully that shows potential buyers that there are no 'hidden nasties'. TBH - after what Ive been through - painting the rooms and putting down flooring will be a doddle. (although still more...

    Sell house half finished?

Thanks guys. Ive got a valuer coming out to look at it. Im committed with the builders to have it finished and be a 'working' house; so its whether its worth selling it now or whether its best to wait until the carpets are down and its been painted. To my mind people want to put their 'stamp'...

    Can uPVC windows be altered?

What is the biggest size a window can be as one sash? (that complies with building regs). I want these windows to just be one pane with no bars.

    New kitchen drawers dont open!

Yes - they all worked fine in the showroom. I had an installer fit the kitchen. He did a good job and corrected some of the design errors. Ill ask him about if theres anything he can adjust, although he was the one that told me about the issue.

    New kitchen drawers dont open!

Hi all, We've just had a new kitchen installed. (Not the most expensive, but certainly not cheap). A couple of the drawers you have to push really hard to get them to 'soft close'. Theres also a spice drawer (tall and narrow) which you have to really pull to open, it feels like its stuck. Are...

    What paint for lime plaster?

Hi all, I have a small cob cottage which has been re-plastered using lime plaster. Do I need to use breathable paint? (I presume I do so moisture doesnt get trapped). I dont have the budget for Farrow & Ball. Are there cheap alternatives? Thanks

    Can uPVC windows be altered?

Thanks guys. Notch7: I suppose 60mm is a bit more what I was expecting it would be in the first place. What do you think the charge would be for this? Crank39: So what youre suggesting would give me 1 whole pane with no bars? I like it. What do you think the charge would be for this? BTW...

    Can uPVC windows be altered?

Yes, I suppose you could say that they supplied as per spec - but a bit of common sense would dictate that - given the bar is so wide - it wouldnt be what I wanted. Even if he put the measurement of the bar on the diagram I would have picked up on this then!

Is this standard height for toilet and basin?

Ive just measured my old basin height and its 35mm higher. (amazing what 35mm does!). I suppose I could stick a bit of plywood under the unit to raise it by 35mm?

Hi all Is the below a standard height for a basin? I have it setup ready to plumb, but it seems too low!

    Can uPVC windows be altered?

Ive just read the spec. It doesnt mention mullion bars. It does mention Astragal bars on the vertical sliders - which Im happy with, but doesnt say anything for the casements. Heres the picture I got: DS: Dummy sash; TV: trickle vent Im happy to PM you the spec/wording if youd like to take a...

    Can uPVC windows be altered?

Thanks guys - your replies are helpful. To answer your questions: - The installer is FENSA registered - These are groundfloor windows (but I can see why you think theyre not ground floor: the ground floor is a metre above the ground outside becuase the house is built on a slope) - I had a word...

    Can uPVC windows be altered?

Thanks Notch7. I did communicate what we wanted. We wanted big open views of the field. I was expecting him - as a professional - to advise accordingly. I cant be expected to know all the terminology they use - it should be explained in layman's terms. If he had used masking tape (like you do)...

    Can uPVC windows be altered?

Here are some more photos (external and internal). As you can see, theyre almost the size of patio doors. What they were MEANT to be were big windows with a thin lie down the centre. There looks to be more plastic down the middle that in your photo of actual patio doors!! This is...
