RSJ to block cooker hood ducting?

Hi, I'm going to be removing part of my kitchen wall as part of an extension. My old back foor and 1.5m of wall next to it are to go, with some form of RSJ put in it's place I presume. My former builder has exposed the joists as in the attached photo, you can hopefully make out the joist right...

    Extending horizontal boiler flue

Hi, My new extension has brought the current Worcester SI boiler flue inside (red in image). It's still close to the great outdoors though, and if I were to turn the flue bend to go through the side wall rather than the back wall it's mounted on, and pass through a 1m wide toilet, I can exit...

    replumbing for a new cistern

I am, yes, but literally only 60cm through the wall to a washing machine. Thanks

Just the cistern immediately next to it.

    replumbing for a new cistern

Thanks. By "must", do you mean there is some form of regulation or it's good logical practise? There is not going to be more than 1.5m of pipework in the entire system here, so from a functional point of view I wouldn't see a real benefit in adding a drain cock.

    replumbing for a new cistern

Thanks, So can I do what I hope to? Should the drain cock be able to be removed from the isolating valve?

    replumbing for a new cistern

Hi, Could someone possibly tell me what I'm looking at in this photo and if I can do what I hope I can with it? http://imgur.com/eYWwAnZ Obviously it's a smart meter for a second feed into my house intended for a downstairs toilet only. I'm replacing the toilet and renovating. So I need to...

    Replacing an old room thermostat

Thank you all for your help. We isolated the blue wire and used the "earth" as the switched live. All working now. Hurrah!

Just Live, Neutral and Earth, nothing that seems "interesting" to me.

    Replacing an old room thermostat

Hi again, My wife tried wiring the same thermostat again this afternoon with the same results (surprise surprise!) I did realise I gave pretty useless information last time I posted... The thermostat is this one http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/glowarm-rt500-programmable-1932-17046 and I can't...

    Replacing an old room thermostat

Does this lead to any real end? Does it suggest I really probably just stuck a wire were I shouldn't have?

    Replacing an old room thermostat

Well, I can't remember much about trying to fit it outside of the confusion and the swearing, but I'd be pretty confident it was wired in correctly. Maybe.

    Replacing an old room thermostat

Hi, I tried replacing an existing, and very dated, Honeywell room thermostat with a new one, the maker of which escapes me now, but seemed like a decent enough piece of kit. [Well, to be honest, my father, an electrician for 30 years had never heard of them...] We found though, that as soon...

    Angle grinding floor for cables?

Hi, I need to work out some way to get my Sky cables (two full size ones as the engineer said it was better and more felxible than a lower profile twin cable) and a power cable across a doorway. Tacking around the outside of the door frame is really unappealing, especially as the cables are...

    Router recommendations

I'll go for that... well actually, not that as that is the previous model AFAIK. but https://www.toolstop.co.uk/ryobi-ert1150vn-1/4inch-1150w-router-240v-with-8-assorted-cutters-p10708 seems fine for the newer N model, quite what the difference is i've no idea. As for what I'm doing in the...

Hi, I couldn't see any suitable threads about this searching, so hopefully i'm not missing something and repeating this... [ OK, I am... the search on this site seems poor, but a similar thread on the same page.. blimey, sorry... ] I'm looking at buying a router on a moderate budget...

Garage conversion, how to prevent potential water damage

I'm certainly aware of potential issues, but I'm fairly sure that the structure is really pretty good outside of the way the roof joins to the rest, no sign of any water coming in from anywhere else etc, so I still feel it should be OK. Building a structure should be fine, very confident of...
