Hi Thanks very much for taking the time to write that extremely helpful reply. There are two zone valves and an automatic bypass valve has been fitted. Can the 2nd pump remain in situ or will it restrict the flow? Thanks Jon

    Central heating pump wiring

Hi, No idea, I think I’d better have a word . TBH I haven’t had a single tradesman at my house (it was a bungalow and is now a house) who hasn’t cocked something up. I’ve found that often it’s easier to sort things out myself. I’ve got an Infra-red thermometer. I can have a go at balancing...

    Central heating pump wiring

Hi I’ve turned off the second pump and checked the boiler pump setting it was on the highest constant pressure setting (4) so I have changed it to variable (0). The rad that didn’t seem to get hot without the 2nd pump is now heating up. Have I done the right thing? Thanks, Jon

    Central heating pump wiring

It’s a new installation! The plumber said it was needed because of the number of rads? It all seems to work ok apart from the noise. If the aux pump is turned off not all the rads get hot. Has he ballsed something up? Regards, Jon

    Completely wireless heating control options?

Hi Yes that's the problem, I don't have an existing programmer in the airing cupboard and no switching wire to the boiler. Its a system boiler and I have a hot water cylinder so any wireless controls need to be able to turn on the boiler remotely to control the hot water. Not many of the...

    Completely wireless heating control options?

Hi Thanks, Most of those that offer hot water control Hive, Nest Etc seem to have a unit that replaces an existing programmer that is already wired to turn the boiler on and off. Or am I wrong? Jon

    Completely wireless heating control options?

Plastic sheet behind recessed meter box

Hi, I'm installing a recessed meter box into the wall of my house the instructions show to install a plastic sheet behind it on the inner leaf of the cavity wall. Presumably this is to act as moisture barrier. My question is how should the sheet be held in place when retro fitting? Thanks Jon

    Removing a Bungalow Roof

Hi, I am currently applying for planning to turn my 1950s bungalow into a two storey house. If successful I'm wondering if I can take the existing tiled cut roof down myself once the scaffolding has been erected (I'm planning on keeping and reusing the roof tiles). Ready for the brick layers...

    Damp Dormer

    DIY Earth Bonding?

Hi, Just an update the power company sent an engineer round, he didn't even look at the bonding (which I have put in place). He said the pole and supply wires were out of date and dangerous so they will be removing both and providing a new underground supply with PME and will also move my...

Increasing the height of a stone wall with blocks

Hi, I have a low stone wall around the perimeter of my home. I would like to replace this with a rendered block wall. I understand if the new wall is less than a meter high I do not need planning permission. Can increase the height of the stone wall with blocks then render the lot, or will...
