    Earthing a steel bath

I have actually got an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and my question was in response to the earlier quote from the IEE: Metal baths supplied by metal pipes do not require supplementary bonding if all the pipes are bonded and there is no other connection of the bath to...

    Earthing a steel bath

Surely the steel bath would be insulated from the earthed pipes by the plastic/rubber sealing washers and enamel between the bath and the taps taps.

Tiling: how do I cut an L-shape?

A few tips on the tile saw - I bolted mine the top of my B&D work mate - keeps it nice and secure and at a nice working height, You will need to top up the cooling water quite often, this also helps to keep down the dust. Put some plastic sheeting and a bucket under the saw to catch the...

    That'll be the Daewoo...

I seem to remember having a similar problem on an old Vauxhall Chevette I had years ago. The air direction control was a flap that had a mechanical linkage to the heater control switch. The screw on the linkage had worked loose stopping the flap moving to direct the air to the screen - could be...

    Seatbelts on 1996 Corsa

Has anyone had to replace the seatbelts on a 1996(N) Corsa? The drivers side belt on my wife's Corsa has broken - the belt doesn't clip into the socket anymore. Is it a case of just replacing the top part of the socket or do you need to replace the whole pre-tensioner mechanism?

Tiling: how do I cut an L-shape?

As I'm tiling my whole bathroom I invested in an electric tile saw - it makes cutting tiles so easy and handles 'L' shape cuts with ease. I go mine from Screwfix. If you use a manual tile saw remember not to pick it up by the blade after using it

    2 new ones

I've put paint brushes into a sealed plastic bag overnight to keep them fresh - it seems to work, although some of the paint does dry and can cause problems if it flakes of into the fresh paint the next day. Far better to spend the time to clean brushes and rollers after use. After...

Grouting - what am I doing wrong?

I've just grouted a large area of tiling, and after a few minutes lots of little tiny holes have appeared in the grout lines! I applied the grout using a grout float and then cleaned any grout of the tiles with a damp sponge. The grout looked great for a while! Am I not forcing enough...

    Footings for Conservatory wall

When we had our conservatory built last year they dug down about 1m! Although our walls had to be about 1.2m high to get the conservatory floor level the same as the house floor. Best to check with your local building regs people.

    Removing bathroom wall tiles

Are you sure it's plasterboard? - the 'strips' could be laths. I've started stripping the tiles from my bathroom. There are two layes of tiles. The top layer seems to be stuck on with some kind of resin glue and just fall of in blocks! The layer underneath also come of very easily (so far...

    Welded switch!

I'm in the middle of re-fitting our bathroom and started yesterday by removing the airing cupboard doors and frame. In the airing cupboard there was a small switch (looked like a light switch) that I hadn't really noticed before, even though we have been in the house for 12 years! I tried to...

Low Voltage Light Distribution & Fusing

It's a Screwfix 210W transformer that has short circuit and overload protection. I can get a supply of Weidmuller term blocks, both fused or straight feedthrough so just wondered if adding a fuse would give any advantages.

Low Voltage Light Distribution & Fusing

I am replacing my bathroom light with 4 off low voltage spots (IP44). I have a 210W transformer that has 2 wires on the output, so I will need to add some distribution terminals to the 4 lamps. Is it preferable to add a fuse on each lamps supply or can I just connect them directly?

    tap connection sizes

I have ordered a new bath suite that comes with taps. So I'm all ready to go when it arrives I want to order some flexible tap connections but there seems to be two sizes 1/2" and 3/4". Are the bath and sink taps the same size or different and do all taps follow the same standard?
