    Neutral Outside of europe

Is it possible that the 'shocks' he is getting is due to the appliances being imported from EU/US countries, where EMC compliance is required and may well have filter caps between live & earth, and neutral & earth?

    Reasons not to steal cables

Were you watching a different 9/11 to the rest of us that day? You think its a conspiracy because FIRE alone cannot cause a building collapse? You don't think that fact that the structure was SEVERELY COMPROMISED by the aircraft impact might have played some part in the collapse?

    Reasons not to steal cables

Well all Skenk's evidence is on Youtube, so i guess it must be true :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Along with all the other crackpot stuff like perpetual motion machines and that the moon landings were faked.

To DIY or not to DIY?

Hmm, well the more i read about this, the more confusing it gets. My local LABC's charges i found here www.bournemouth.gov.uk/PlanningBuildings/BuildingControl/chargesFiles/TableC.pdf] suggests the fee of £217 + vat, which is clearly for 'non competent persons' which includes inspection...

To DIY or not to DIY?

OK thanks for your replies guys. And especially to BAS for that link. I had not seen that form. I think you are all correct and that their fee does not include test, despite them telling me differently on the phone (This wouldnt be the 1st time that my LABC have messed up :( ) So a bit...

To DIY or not to DIY?

Hello Im after a few additions to my household electrics. New circuit to kitchen for a 10kW instant water heater. New circuit to bathroom for a 5kW instant water heater. New circuit to the shed (When i finish building it :) ) And I currently have no rcd protection in the house, so I...

    Plywood delaminated

    Plywood delaminated

Morning I have a 12mm WBP sheet of ply, which after cutting to size, I have noticed that it has started to delaminate at an edge. Upon closer inspection, it looks like there is an extra 'layer' at this point. Is this common, or is this a manufacturing defect?

Planning / building regs for sheds?

And 4 months later when I finally started to build the thing... Building control turn up. Looks like someone has moaned about it. They were very helpful though and when i mentioned that I had spoken to them about it before, they simply said 'OK' and went away again. Got a feeling its not the...

    Advice for shed rafters

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. Bigall, nice shed :) If mine looks half that good, i'll be happy. I probably should have mentioned, its a flat roof, with a 10 degree slope. So not sure if the birdsmouth cuts still apply, but see no reason why not.

    Advice for shed rafters

Hi, got a question on my shed build. Excuse the lack of technical terms. I am about to cut the rafters for my shed, and am wondering how these should be attached to the walls of the shed. The shed wall frames are made up of 4x2 as is the rafters. The easy way is to place them on top of the...

So, whats the opinion on this?

Blimey. Well im slighly embarrassed to say that I never noticed that and all this time I thought the house was RCD protected! Yes there are outdoor sockets. And I assume that any new electrical work in a kitchen/bathroom requires RCD protection now, so I guess its a new consumer unit some...

High incoming voltage, solar PV installation.

Unless your solar array is enourmous, I would have thought it would have a negligable effect on the line voltage. ...Unless every house on the street has it :)

So, whats the opinion on this?

Cheers for the comments. Ive already removed the dead wires and tightened the loose connections. I was just curious as to wether it was a case of "Its a bit messy but OK" or "Was the previous owner trying to kill himself?" The thing i really didnt like was the bare conductor laying in...

So, whats the opinion on this?

Evening Had the lid off the consumer unit to check something and found some disconnected wires laying inside the box. Now I realise that they are not likely to move into harms way, but to me, its not safe. The one in the chock block simply exits the bottom of the consumer unit and terminates...
