Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

All things considered I called the local legends of a husband-wife duo who fix just about everyone's appliances around here. I was mostly wondering if it was something really stupid as machinery is not my forté. I'm much better at carpentry.

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

Alas not the best but it has survived for quite a while. It's a John Lewis JLWM1203 which I think is actually made by Electrolux. I've had to replace a couple of bits on it in 15 years but it seems pretty solid all things considered.

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

Pretty much none. It doesn't even run for a full second before stopping and starting again.

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

My guess is that it probably is the water level sensor. Pulling the machine out is a giant pain in the backside but I have a feeling that's what I'll have to do.

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

Unfortunately I'm the one who does the DIY around here. The husband just pays for stuff.

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

I'll check but I put it on a drain cycle and it ran that fine. I only just put laundry in and out didn't start to fill in the first place so I don't think it's an issue of something being stuck and preventing drainage unless there's a sensor that stops it from filling if there's something in the...

Washing machine wont fill, water keeps going on and off

A little hard to describe but I just went to put some washing on and the water stop-starts repeatedly. I'll probably call the legendary local repair guy but anything I should check first? Turned off and on again etc already.

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

Hey if it's easier to get it in the wall straight then I'm all for it.

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

Also I think I mentioned it but I did do the "cross" method of marking the holes, I'm using long screws in the brick, doubling the plugs up to get them all the way into the hole, using Fischer duopower plugs.

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

It's this simple one from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/skogsviken-toilet-roll-holder-black-20423824/ Just two holes in a bit of metal. I was able to fill in the holes a bit and wobble it around when I tightened the screws, but I will try a better method when it inevitably gets loose.

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

It's plasterboard over brick, dot and dab so there's a gap. I used a corded impact drill from Wilko. Cheap but does the job for occasional DIY stuff.

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

The only thing of that I didn't do was start with a smaller bit. I did the plasterboard with a regular wood bit, no hammer, and then switched when I got to the brick. Next time I'll try stepping up.

Why am I so inept with wall plugs?

Seems like every time I go to put something on the wall I have trouble. Either the plugs are too long, the holes turn out too big, I can't seem to drill into the wall properly, or everything comes out crooked even though I measure and check everything with a level. Tonight I tried to install a...

Cover hole in cast iron soil pipe?

There is a hole in my cast iron soil pipe. Fortunately it's well above where any, er, material would be. I had planned to get the whole thing replaced but when the plumber came around to do it he told me it was actually in pretty good shape and didn't need to be done. However it does have this...

Expanding foam to stick plasterboard patch to brick?

I've got a small area in my bathroom (under the soil pipe) where there is no plasterboard or tile, just brick. There's a small gap to the outside. I bought a can of "exact gap" spray foam with the intention of filling the gap, but I also want to put in a plasterboard patch, then a tile...

One Strike filler instead of joint compound for repair?

I've got a small area in the kitchen ceiling to patch due to a leak in the bathroom above. I ordered my materials to be delivered but when they arrived I didn't get the jointing compound I ordered. However I have a big tub of One Strike filler on hand. Would that work as a substitute with paper...

Suggestions for boxing in these pipes?

There would have been a coal fire in the front room next to the kitchen originally but I presume the cooker was gas. We still have a gas cooker but the coal fire is long gone. I'm not going to chase in cables or remove the vent until I get the major works done.

Suggestions for boxing in these pipes?

It's only temporary until we get the whole kitchen gutted and the electrics upgraded. It will have to wait until next summer though most likely.

Suggestions for boxing in these pipes?

I've just had a lot of old rubber pipes replaced with copper. There used to be a cupboard on this wall that covered the pipes and the air brick but it was water damaged so it has gone. We're planning to get the kitchen redone next year sometime but I'd like to cover these up and put up a...

Burning green woods in the garden

I had a leylandii cut down several years ago and saved a few branches for the fire pit. I ended up cutting them down and putting them in the bin because I did not like the way they smelled when burned. Usually I like the smell of wood smoke.
