I dont quite understand how you mean the wall is not sealed? But... I have been having the same problem, they were getting in through the air bricks, i.e. under the suspended floor! I almost solved the problem by putting copper tape all around the openings and we rarely get them now! you can...

Lean to Roof, corner (hip rafter)

OK. Thanks again. I have an idea, but what do you guys think the best way to create a vaulted ceiling (in order to install a velux window) would be? The span as mentioned is only c 2.5m, so is there an easy way to get around using ceiling joists to tie the rafters in and provide lateral...

Lean to Roof, corner (hip rafter)

    loft insulation

yes the eaves and fascia vents can be meshed to prevent birds and insects entering through them. you can buy them designed for this purpose that should be fine. The ventilation is to get rid of the warm air and vapour that rises through the insulation at ceiling level (anything above the...

    loft insulation

if you are going to insulate the rafters and create a warm roof then you dont need insulation between the joists. If you keep the insulation between the joists then make sure you have decent ventilation and be sure not to block the eaves vents when adding the insulation..if it's just for storage...

Curing condensation in cupboard with a rough render?

yeh as posted by the guy before - the warm air in a bathroom holds alot of moisture and when it contacts a cold metal surface such as a washing machine or external wall, it will cool and condense. ventilation is the best way of controlling it so extractor fans maybe an option.

Questions to ask cavity wall installation company

look into getting a grant for it - the gov't may subsidise some of the cost of having your insulation done.

When did Cavity Wall insulation become a legal requirement

on the same subject I have calculated (roughly) the U-value of my house to be 1.3 W/m2K, which as you can imagine is pretty cold in winter. Its a 1938 end terrace with un-insulated cavity walls. Does anyone know of any good insulation grants or websites to check out reg this..? cheers. :?
