Maths to see if it's right - not guesswork.

By pass valve = pressure standard right angle adjustable pressure bypass valve, fitted between feed and return loop on the primary circuit. The short section of pipe accomodating this is 22mm. with a fully open gate valve on the inpput side, the pressure release valve on a 90 degree corner and a...

Maths to see if it's right - not guesswork.

Hi there - I have read various posts on calculation of static pressure for various specific systems on the forum. However I am not sure I understand enough about the fundamental issue of static pressure to work out what the static pressure in my system is. As I understand it static pressure =...

Variation on the carpet edging question - wood / carpet.

Hi, I have an existing wooden floor which I will be keeping. I want to lay carpet over three quarters of the floor. Leaving a walkway down one side of the room on the wooden floor boards. The carpet area therefore will be raised. Edging the carpet: I once saw a brass quarter round strip...

    Shower Leak - groan

I started poking around with a feeler blade and found that I could get it under a peice of the silicone sealant in the problem area. I must have failed to clean that peice properly when applying the sealant first time round. So it didn't adhere to the tray. It wasn't visible to the human eye...

    Shower Leak - groan

apologies because I see there are allot of topics on the subject... I have a plastic (not PVC) tray on a concrete floor and I am 100% confident the pipework is ok - since there is no wet when I remove the inspection panel at the front of the shower. I have pressure tested the mixer by...

    22mm bath taps - where?

The water outlet on the hot tap in question was about 2" wide and about 1" front to back in a roughly rounded rectangular shape. the water litterally gushed out of the thing! I really do think it's unlikely that that volume could be fed through anything like as small as a 15mm pipe. I suspect...

    22mm bath taps - where?

I once stayed in hotel with a really huge bath. It filled in minutes and I recon must have had 22mm feed pipes to the taps. Where on earth does one find 22mm taps? For a fast bath fill? I might be talking rubbish - perhaps it had pumped 15mm taps??

    Is this idea feasible?

Thanks for the response that's lovely.

    Is this idea feasible?

The hot water pressure in the house is not brilliant and I was thinking about installing a pressurised hot water cylinder. Our mains pressure is stonking! The hot tank is fed by the header tank as usual. This would obviously be straight conversion – no problem. What makes it more tricky is...

    Outside TAP / construction /

Sadly not - it arrives from the neighbour at the back of the house in the cellar, from their cellar.

    Outside TAP / construction /

Yes - I wasn't clear enough. I need to check but I think the DPC (being an old house) has been injected about 2" above ground level and I think the floor boards are 2" above that. I can't raise the hole through the wall internally since that would involve an obvious pipe inside the bay window of...

    Outside TAP / construction /

Chaps - I want to put an outside tap on the front of my terrace house. There is a small garden there, so not into the street. Inside the house seems pretty obvious. pipework under the floor to the foundations. Through the foundations and underground to the tap site seems more complex. It's that...

Measure and Plan substrate relative to tray before tiling.

Dear People, I noticed my tiles below the mixer and outlet “pushing”. After removal a leak was repaired. Now I have the lower half of one wall, minus the row of tiles behind the door, that is back to the brick – with a shower tray at the bottom. This question pertains to filling that area in...

    Wooden Fascia Treatment.?.?

Was planning to use the full weathershield system to repaint my fascia boards... however. I stripped the old paint off which had a flaking top coat. I found that the whole system was extremely thick 1-2mm and would not pull off using a scraper (like most will if your determined). Very hard...

Halstead Ace - intermittent hot water service

Diagnosis 100% - thanks. Dipped in scalebreaker for 2 hours, refitted. Right as rain. Large flakes of deposits exited the primary side of plate HE during the rinsing process. So we can guarantee the system is full of crud and it'll clog again soon. I just cleaned it out as a temporary measure as...

Halstead Ace - intermittent hot water service

Hi folks, my better half has a Halstead Ace combi boiler. The unit was fitted along with a totally new heating system about three years ago. Since that time the thing has been less than reliable. It works fine for central heating but gives intermittent forms of hot water service. The most common...

What temperature is the most efficient to run condensing at?

I finished applying more insulation to the areas of the house that were a little lacking. Hate that job, so dusty and dirty. Bigburner – thanks so much for that I am seriously considering the Avantaplus now. D_Hailsham – thank you so much for your excellent response – (not that others...

What temperature is the most efficient to run condensing at?

I balanced the system to give exactly 11 degrees drop so when it was at freezing point outside a few winters ago. But this is against a fanfare with an 80 flowstat as normal.
