    Switches near hobs

Absolutely! I'm having the bathroom done at the same time - the builder must be using an electrician for that as I've had new lights in there as well as electrics for the mirror, so I'll just ask him if he can do it. I've actually installed the kitchen units now but taken the backs out, so...

    Switches near hobs

OK, thanks all. Looks like the best thing to do is to just accept that the best place for the switches is on that wall. In any case, my original plan (just moving existing stuff around) is not going to work anyway. I've just had a look at what I've got. I had a rewire done a year ago. At that...

    Switches near hobs

Thanks. I've always used the switch to turn on and off the plinth heater. There is a switch on the heater itself, but it's far easier to leave that on and just use the switch on the wall. I'm just moving the existing switches around to accommodate the new kitchen. Again, the only other place...

    Switches near hobs

Sorry, you are quite right - I mean the isolation switch. It's not ideal because it's a switch on an otherwise-clean wall between the kitchen and the under-stairs cupboard. It's very thin, probably not deep enough to accommodate a box.

    Switches near hobs

A quick one, this. I've got a tall larder unit next to my hob. The hob unit is 800mm wide, the induction hob is 570mm wide. So, I make it that the distance from the edge of the hob to the tall larder unit is only 115mm. There will be a plinth heater under the larder unit. My question is: can...

please help me find the right part so I can use my DW

Thanks. Something like that would be fine if I just had one machine but I have my dw next to my wm. I don't think a standpipe can accommodate both

please help me find the right part so I can use my DW

Thanks, but how do I then connect the dw and wm? I'll just be left with a grey wastepipe with a plug in it?

please help me find the right part so I can use my DW

Hi all The plumber let me down just before my kitchen install so I had to extend the plumbing myself (or face even further delay with the install, which I just cannot afford). In short, I started off with a DW on one side of the kitchen, fed by a single cold water feed with a single 40mm...

    Surface-mounted cables behind kitchen cabinets

Thanks all. In that case I'll not get an electrician in and save a few quid. This is good news - I can crack on with the install!

    Surface-mounted cables behind kitchen cabinets

Hi all, I was reading this thread http://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/chased-wires-in-kitchen-wall-does-this-look-right.431821/ recently which got me thinking about a kitchen in a house I'm renovating. I am doing a fairly straightforward like-for-like replacement of the kitchen units and...

    Electric plinth heater under sink??

Thanks all. In answer to the questions: Not sure what rating the hob is. It's a 4-heater induction hob, and the electrician is putting it on its own circuit). It's a good idea to try it first under the larder unit - I'm assuming that it wouldn't work there, but it might. I'll do that...

    Electric plinth heater under sink??

I've already got the plinth heater (for a 600mm unit), but I suppose buying another could be an option. I do have oven housing, but it is at the wrong end of the kitchen. In some ways it would be easier to put it there, but I would struggle to find a space for the FCU, as there is a hob and then...

    Tiles Left Over

I recently ordered a lot of tiles for my bathroom and kitchen. The supplier normally only allows returns of full boxes, but I made it a condition of the sale that I could return 10% of the overall order value (which included all the adhesive, grout, trim etc). They were happy enough with...

    Electric plinth heater under sink??

Thanks all. I am certainly not confident enough in my own abilities to plumb the sink properly, I'll be getting a plumber to do that! However, I am also not confident that my client won't bash the plumbing around once installed, as she rams various cleaning products in to the unit. It's happened...

    Electric plinth heater under sink??

Hi My kitchen designer (read: me) has made a bit of a cock up. I had to re-arrange the layout at the last minute as the client (read: my wife) wanted a lot of smaller cupboards to replace a two larger ones. I rearranged it all as per her request, and it arrives next week. There is no more...

How can I test if the floor is solid enough?

Hi all I'm putting down a quartz tile floor for the kitchen soon, and I'm a bit concerned about the subfloor. It was originally 20mm pine floorboards for most of the room, but there is also a solid hearth area which covers about 1/4 of the room. The floorboards were old and a bit wobbly...

    Solid Beech worktop

IKEA. They do beech worktops that are quite shallow (26mm thick). You will have to measure the staves, but they look narrow to me: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/30273796/
