    Manufacturers of 3 port valves

It's definitely mechanical. When I remove the actuator head, the shaft rotation feels rough and stiff to turn by hand. I've tried exercising it and it works for a short while but eventually it stiffens up again. I've had a total of three valves fitted in the space of 20 years or so. Maybe I'm...

    Manufacturers of 3 port valves

Does anyone have a preference of manufacturers? My Honeywell is playing up and will need replacing soon. Seems to me that Honeywell valves don't last that long as I'm on my 3rd one.

    Thanks for all the comments.

BS fuses time current characteristics question

Yes I guess it would but we have some very good heat resisting materials around these days so I can't see that this is the only reason. I was wondering if it may have something to do with fuse tolerances and ambient temperatures?

BS fuses time current characteristics question

Of course this would be unacceptable but I was just wondering why the curve isn't moved across to the left a bit on the current axis. For example the 5 amp rated fuse would blow in a reasonable time when the load it was protecting started to draw say 6 amps.

BS fuses time current characteristics question

Hi all If you look at the time current characteristic charts in BS7671 regs I noticed that for a rated fuse of say 5amps BS3036, the minimum amount of current required to operate that fuse is just less than 9amps! Am I missing something here? According to that chart, if I have a 4amp rated...

    Painting a galvanised garage door

Just heat stripped my galvanised garage door as it was peeling. I now need to prime it before adding a final colour. To prevent a reaccurence of the peeling, what type of primer should I use? Thanks

    Kia Picanto occasional starting problems

Wife has a Picanto and it has been a pretty good car but for one annoying problem: very infrequently say 3 or 4 times a month it takes quite a long time to fire up. It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold, it may take up to a minute of turning it over until it starts. The dealer said he...

    Astra 08 wiper adjustment

I would like to adjust the park position of the passenger side wiper arm as it occasionally hits the rubber seal around the windscreen and makes a rather loud and annoying noise whilst driving in the rain. I tried to remove the black domed cap which covers the securing nut for the arm, without...

    DIY shoe repairs

Hi all Not quite sure where this thread belongs so I posted it here. I don't know about you chaps but I'm fed up of taking the wife's shoes to have new heels fitted. It take the cobbler about 2 minutes and he charges anything from £5-10. I've tried to find these heels online to no...

Disappointing hot water flow from new tap

Hi Chaps Just replaced the old mixer tap in the kitchen sink with a shiny new one and am quite disappointed with the flow from the hot water. It takes an age to fill the sink. I noticed that the feed pipes to the new tap had a slightly smaller internal diameter to the old ones. I was thinking...

Hi All Just watched the movie 300 Spartans. I thought it was pretty good but what I really liked was the soundtrack that was played during the final credits. Try as I might I cannot find the name of it. Can anyone help? Thanks

    Soldering cables

When I did my apprenticeship many years ago, we were taught how to solder 7 stranded cable together to make a sound electrical connection. My question is this: can I use this method to connect/extend singles cable in a trunking? I would make good the insulation with the correctly rated...

    MCB breaker with enclosure

Hi I'm going to install a permanent breaker with enclosure to hard wire a couple of small air conditioning units (at the moment they are just plugged into a 13 amp sockets). I have looked at various types but they all come separately. Does anyone know if and where I can get a complete unit...

    Sorted: Boiler making strange noise

For anyone who's interested, I traced the problem to a TRV on a new rad that I fitted recently. Just gave it a fiddle and the buzzing stopped. If only everything was that simple eh?
