    Spotlight Junction boxes

Thanks All. Fireman22 - I like the look of these - will fit nicely against the beams. Can I use a higher rated terminal block than 5A - I'm assuming it doesn't matter - as I am assuming I may not be able to fit 2 lots of 5A wire into a 5A terminal block, or will there be plenty of room.

    RSJ span

Thanks a lot. That has put my mind at rest. As you say, there are no visible cracks or anything, I just expected (in my inexpereinced view) that a bit more of an overlap would have been required for this sort of thing. I've enough work as it is without making any more for myself, so I'll...

    RSJ span

I am removing some french doors and blocking up with a stud wall - see another post for details. The doors are not original and an RSJ has been put in to support the wall above. When I removed the plaster last night the RSJ only overlaps the bricks at the edge of the doors by approx 5...

    Spotlight Junction boxes

The spotlights in my bathroom were 'bodged' slightly by the guy who installed them. Each spotlight is currently 'daisy chained', but the wiing is messy and the lights were not really designed to have two lots of cable going in/out from them. I have been advised by my electrician to use...

    Blocking up French Doors

Thanks, "self drilling screws " - are these really specialist or will I get them from B and Q? Is that thei technical name? One last thing - is it easy enough to drill an RSJ? Cant say I've ever tried. Thanks again - would prefer to get it secured at the top as well as the sides.

    Blocking up French Doors

I have some french doors between our living room and dining room. I intend to create a stud wall to make it two seperate room. Approx width is 2.2M. It was once obviously a solid wall, as it has had an RSJ put in afterwards to support when the french doors were put in. Two questions: 1...

    Scrap Copper - How Much?

It certainly looks like copper, and has a greenish rusty appearance. Isn't that what copper goes like?

    Scrap Copper - How Much?

And the £5 goes to Mr Barker. Yes it's an old coal boiler I think. Dont know much else about what it is but its def part of the old coal fireplace stuff, that they had left in place when they bricked it up. Was even still connected up to really thick copper pipes. I'm assuming its 100%...

    Scrap Copper - How Much?

Hi, Does anyone know what the going rate for scrap copper is currently? I've just pulled out an old back boiler which is all copper, and weighs 1st 7pounds? Is this worth anything, and if so can anyone take it to be scrapped or is it only trade? I believe this is about 9.5Kg. Thanks in...

    Laying concrete floor

Thanks. I could do I suppose. I've never done either, it just seemed that pouring in something that was self levelling would be far easier than trying to get concrete level. It needs to be level and at the exact height I need - approx 15mm below the main surface - as I need to fill it with...

    Laying concrete floor

I need to lay a new concrete/solid floor approx 4ft by 2ft, where an old fireplace has been. It will need to be approx 20mm thick. I was going to use self levelling compound, but having read the instructions it says it can only be used for a max of 5mm. What is the best way to create...

    Damp problem ??

I have measured the outside wall to my patio window - 902mm. I have them measured inside wall from patio window to plastered wall - 687mm. Width of bricks is therefore 902-687=215mm ish. It is actually less by the time I take into account approx 10mm of plaster. I'm therefore assuming it...

    Damp problem ??

Thanks. I'm assuming you mean breeze block above the black brick that is shown here, as obviously this is presumably a brick? http://kjpublic.dynalias.com/damp25.jpg If I do start taking bricks out what am I looking for? I've tryed googling for the terms you both mention but not a lot is...

    Damp problem ??

Decided to see what was behind skirting for once and for all. Was wrong about the plaster going behind it unfortunately, Pics of course :) http://kjpublic.dynalias.com/damp25.jpg http://kjpublic.dynalias.com/damp26.jpg http://kjpublic.dynalias.com/damp27.jpg...

    Damp problem ??

One last thing. Looking to either side of where the fireplace was I can still see the old plaster below/behind where it was skimmed. I'm assuming that this may mean the plaster goes right down to the floor behind the skirting?? http://kjpublic.dynalias.com/damp22.jpg...

    Damp problem ??

Firstly, thanks to all who have replied. There has been some very helpful info pasted. I will try to answer some of your questions with a bit of help from a few more photos. I will definitely have a look behind the skirting and see where the plaster goes to. The wall has a neighbouring...
