I need to lay a new concrete/solid floor approx 4ft by 2ft, where an old fireplace has been.
It will need to be approx 20mm thick.

I was going to use self levelling compound, but having read the instructions it says it can only be used for a max of 5mm.

What is the best way to create this floor. Would I need to use concrete first and then pour a thin layer of self levelling onto that, or can anything be mixed with the self levelling compound to allow me to use it for the whole 20mm thickness?

Or is there a specific product that works like self levelling compound but is suitable for thicker floors?

Thanks in advance

As it's only a small area and as such easier to get level then can you not just concrete anyway?, probably work out cheaper for 2 or 3 ready mixed bags from B&Q.

Thanks. I could do I suppose. I've never done either, it just seemed that pouring in something that was self levelling would be far easier than trying to get concrete level.

It needs to be level and at the exact height I need - approx 15mm below the main surface - as I need to fill it with parquet flooring to bring it level with the main floor.

you would be better off using grano with a bit of sharp sand to aid the fat for trowelling up and cement
