    Is a thermostat required?

Thank you for the quick replies. Yes, I've got a Honeywell HW thermostat which probably came with the programmer. How would I integrate a new wireless thermostat with my existing programmer? I'd like to keep my kitchen tidy so if I could get a programmer that communicated directly with the...

    Is a thermostat required?

Hi, Having asked questions before and had quick and helpful replies I thought I'd try again. I've got a back-boiler central heating system with a Baxi 401 boiler and a Potterton EP2002 programmer and all of my radiators bar one have TRVs on them. Would I benefit by getting a room thermostat...

    Baxi Problems

Further to my last post, I have now been promised three timescales for delivery since ordering in December. I have been promised end of January, then end of February which have both came and went and now sometime this month. If anyone knows why Baxi are having continued problems can they post...

    Baxi Problems

Just in case anyone else is ordering a replacement firefront from Baxi, this is what the retailer that i am using has found out from them: Quote: "The delay stems back to Baxi moving factories in October of last year and on re-assembling the machinery found one of the vital parts missing, so...

Hi, I hope that someoen who works at or has connections to Baxi can help. I've ordered a firefront from them in December but was told that it was delayed due to technical problems. I have now been told to expect it by the end of this month but have spoken to a few diferent people at Baxi who...

Thanks for the tip, I've had a go this morning and the result was much improved (though still not decorator standard!). Thank you all for your tips. David

    Glossing doors

I used a tack cloth. I think the problem is partly because I was using too much paintso it was taking forever to dry. I have had a practice on some other doors around the house using less paint and have had much better results. Any tips are still very welcome however! Thanks.

    Glossing doors

I sanded with fine paper as per instructions on the tin and where I've put in a new handle I primed and undercoated where I'd filled the old one. the paint I'm using says one-coat but I thought it'd be best if I prepped the filler. I think it's the application. I'm using a brush then a 4in...

    Glossing doors

Hi, I'm busy glossing the doors in my bedroom (door and 2 walk-in wardrobes) and can't seem to get a good finish. I've applied the paint with a brush then used a gloss roller to even the finish out but I keep seeming to get bits of dirt in the finish. The paint is brand new, the brush and...

    What is a reasonable cost?

Hi, thanks gents. I've had a few quotes now and for the area I live in and timescale that I have in mind this is one of the best. He comes recommended locally so I'll pay a bit extra for that! Seasons greetings.

    wallpapering plaster

Thanks for your advice, I'm curious that if I paint it as suggested by Robbie UK or size as suggested by toneless, if I come to strip the wallpaper anytime in the future would the wallpaper take the plaster off with it? Forgive me, I'm a total diy novice! Once again, thanks!

    wallpapering plaster

Hi all, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I've just had a wall hatch closed off and skimmed level, for decorating next month. The original wall is plasterboard that appears to have been lined prior to painting. The new skimmed bit isn't lined and as it's level with wall I...

    What is a reasonable cost?

I really need it doing in the first two weeks of january as that's when i get my Chrismas holiday (don't ask!) so maybe I'm paying a premium for timings. The papaer I'm getting hung is textured vinyl as hopefully that'll hide the slight rippling in my plasterboard walls. Would that need a...

    What is a reasonable cost?

There are two large windows to be papered round, a radiator he is papering behind and a door to paint. I know I could probably get it cheaper but as it's my first time I thought I'd go for a well regarded local company, who are also registered with the trade professional body. Can't be doing...

    What is a reasonable cost?

Hi, hopefully someone in the trade will be able to give me an idea if I'm paying over the odds for some work I am having done. I have had an estimate of £500 to paint the ceileing and coving, gloss the woodwork (incl undercoat) and paper the walls (paper not included). Room size is approx 6m x...

    Thermostatic Radiator Valves

Thanks for the quick replies! I've got a plumber / heating engineer coming tomorrow to give the central heating it's annual once over so I'll put it to him as he can see the system instead on relying on my inexpert descriptions. Thanks for the benefit of your experience! :D

    Thermostatic Radiator Valves

Hi! All of my radiators have thermostatic valves on them apart from the one in my bathroom but I was wondering if I could change this? I'd like to make the non-thermostatic radiator the one in my living room as this is the largest room and takes the longest to heat up usually, whilst the...

    Baxi back-boiler question

Thanks for your tip. It's due its annual service this month anyway so I'll ask them to do the work for me. It may be old but until it breaks I can't see any point in replacing it. For the cost I doubt I'd see any savings for many years. It would be hard to replace it with anything but another...

What order to decorate a room in?

Hi, I'm just about to try my first attempt at decorating and wonder if anyone has a tried and tested order to do things in. I'm planning on doing the glosswork and ceiling myself, then a new fireplace (professionally fitted), then getting a carpet fitted followed finally by a professional...

    Baxi back-boiler question

One further question gents, I have checked that my boiler model is compatible with the new firefront, is there anything further I need to know before I order it. I think i need to know what type of flue I have, how do I find that out or do I need a fitter in to survey fire / boiler etc then tell...
