    Y Plan

Could someone confirm what a Y Plan refers to. I think it's when the system can supply heat to the water & heating separately or both at the same time. Is this correct :?:

    Filling the system

Dave, There's definite movement now, having taken your advice to run 1 rad only. I can actual hear the water coming down from the 22mm above. But the main thing is that the water is moving. :D :D :D Feels almost as good as a lotto win !!!! Well perhaps £10

    Filling the system

Dave, Latest news - I might be getting somewhere, the full force of the boiler is now pushing at the two rads and I may be getting slight warmth in the feed pipes. The heat is not spreading across the rads yet, but at least this is an improvement. I will leave things the way they are...

    Filling the system

Nothing happening, still air trapped. Both rads are downstairs and are fed with 10mm coming off 22mm on the landing. Both rads are full of water and there's no air trapped within the rads. Can't understand whats causing the problem.

    Filling the system

Yes - its a 35 kW boiler so I shouldn't be having problems It's running 18 double convectors rads but should be able to cope. I just closed down 16 rads and lets see if it can push hot water to the two that are cold.

    Filling the system

As I only have a gate valve and not an automatic bypass valve could this be a reason why my boiler seems to dip in heat output when both water & heating are required. The boiler never seems to operate at it's full capacity. It has an indicator which indicates between 1 and 4 which may relate...

Please could you explain more about the by-pass valve. What actually happens when it is closed. In another post it was said that the boiler might start to bang ! Is it safe to close it down ?

    Filling the system

Yes - fitted two new rads. I have tried to closing down radiators to move the air lock but still can't get some of the rads to heat up. Normally this method works fine but on this occasion it's not. The 3 way valve was set to auto when filling.

    Whats this for ?

I've noticed that there is a short length of 15mm pipework complete with gate valve connecting the 28mm flow & return pipes. I would be grateful if someone could explain what this is for and should the valve be open or closed ?

    Filling the system

Is there a procedure for filling a central heating system ? I drained the system down to replace two radiators and I'm now having problems getting some of the radiators to heat up. I have done the usual things like bleeding & shutting down certain rads to try and force the air round. I...

    What would you do ?

I've just had a new Potterton boiler fitted. The plumber tried to commision the boiler today and could not get it to work. The supplier has said that the unit can not be returned and exchanged and that a Potterton engineer must firstly inspect the boiler. The engineer is not available...
