How would you get around this?

Sorry I should have said, as it is a roll top bath, the waste is exposed and to keep it in keeping with the style, effect affect.

How would you get around this?

I was wondering how you plumbers would get around this. I don't know the correct terms for each of the parts, so have uploaded a couple of images. This is the waste pipe on a roll top bath. Essentially there isn't enough of drop on the P trap, which means that waste pipe is catching on the...

Bathroom Tiling on Chipboard, the install of HardiBacker ...

Just wondering why it isn't recommended to tile onto chipboard flooring (but WBP ply is OK)? I've just had a quote from a builder who was intending to lay a new moisture resistant chipboard bathroom floor, before laying dry / electric UFH, followed by tiling?

Can joists be drilled to take bathroom plastic waste pipes?

Hi all, Thought that I would add to this thread rather than start a new one. Similar to the OP, I'm renovating my upstairs bathroom and the joists run perpendicular to where I need the shower waste pipe to flow. The joists (7") have previously been drilled and fitted with a 32mm waste pipe...

Any way to lighten varnished wood?

Thanks for the reply. You mentioned the 'stain soaked into the wood'. This has been treated with a water based varnish, from my little knowledge of varnish, I was under the impression that varnish didn't soak into wood like stain does and that it just kind of 'sits on the top' of wood?

Any way to lighten varnished wood?

Thanks for the reply. That's not what I wanted to read! 4 rooms have been done with the stuff and the floor sander is quoting £15p sq. m :-(

Any way to lighten varnished wood?

I'm currently finished varnishing a floor with antique pine floor (water based) varnish, but 'the boss' now says that it is "too orange" and wants it to be a lighter shade. Is there any way to this? Wood bleach? A clear matt varnish on top? Or is the only solution either paint stripper or...

Bathroom - Wet Room / Walk-in Shower Queries

Thanks for the reply. From what I'm reading is 7" isn't really enough to space for the trap and the slope in the outlet pipe, therefore I will either need to raise the floor or lower the ceiling. What is the minumum that is really needed 8* or more? I notice that the outlet pipe (around...

Bathroom - Wet Room / Walk-in Shower Queries

Hi, I’m in the process of redesigning my bathroom and have a few queries to help me finalise my plans. For the shower, I want it to be a wet room / walk-in shower style where the floor of the shower is level with the floor of the rest of the bathroom. The bathroom is an upstairs bathroom...

    Victorian bedroom hearth renovation

Hi all, I'm currently renovating the bedrooms in my Victorian house. I have removed the hearth tiles (and cast iron fireplace) and want to make good the hearth and relay the tiles and refit the cast iron fireplace. The fireplaces will be decorative only. The outer bits of the hearths...

2 bed house central heating - 22mm ring main - OTT?

Am I right in thinking that a main system of 22mm would be 'standard practice' even in small terraced houses?

2 bed house central heating - 22mm ring main - OTT?

Hi, I'm currently renovating a two up, two down terraced house and will be repiping the central heating throughout. It will feed 9 (Acova steel column) radiators and run off already installed (about 3 years old) Worcester combi boiler. I've just had a Plumber to come around to give me a...

Router to Cat6 network - neat n tidy solutions?

Thanks all for your replies. I've now got a much better understanding of what I need to do :D Coming back to the neat n' tidy solution, am I right in thinking that even with this there would a need for several cables to be going from the network switch to the patch panel? (the house has a...

Router to Cat6 network - neat n tidy solutions?

Hi all, Thanks to all those who responded to my post about installing a network. I'm finally getting to the point where I can install the network and generally get the house back together. The network is a phone line into the house and this will then be connected to my router. Each one...

    restoring pine wooden floor

Aren't you able to just sand down the scratches and small holes? With splits, I have glued the cracks and then sanded when dry. I've seen people use a sawdust / PVA mix to fill in the gaps between floorboards.

    Big, stubborn Tree Stump

I've dug out a number of tree stumps and agree with wrathkeg. Although I think that might need to dig deeper; when I have dug them up I have almost dug under the stump / rootball itself. Even then they have taken a fair amount of leverage to finally lift the actual stump / rootball. Good luck!

Insulating shed for use as office (for xbox!)

For Celotex / Kingspan etc have a look at 'Seconds & Co' website or ebay listings, as they often sell off insulation cheaply.

Effects of Cellotex on audio visual signals

Thanks for the reply. I've already bought a reel of Cat6 cable to run a network across the house. My next job was to buy and fit the installation in the stud walls and the ceiling joists. I'll defo be fitting fibre slabs there now. Cheers!

Effects of Cellotex on audio visual signals

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking more about the cables and the multi-switch, they would be a couple of mm away from foil on the insulation. Would this have any effect? When you saw 'insulated the walls', do you mean insulated the walls with foil faced insulation or insulation with...
