    Cat5e Home Network

jumping in a bit late here, but I've hardwired our home with cat5e cables about 6 years ago (wireless NICs were around £60 each with wireless routers costing around £150 at the time so hardwired was the cheapest option) I have a Safecom router with built-in usb print server, netgear 8 port...

New system - boiler has short cycle time

Many thanks for the replies. I'm pleased to say that even with just 3 rads in place the house is becoming nice and warm in a fairly short time. I'm hoping to get the rest of the rads in over the next two weekends, and if the current heat levels are anything to go by then the house will be very...

New system - boiler has short cycle time

Further to my previous posts I've just spent an "enjoyable" weekend ripping out the old rads and pipework and replacing it with new. I have three rads connected, mostly via 22mm with 15mm feeds to the rads. The main feed / return pipes are capped until I have more time to install the remaining...

Dumbfounded - why wont the rads warm up !

Interesting comments, and thanks for the input. About a year ago I had to replace a small cylinder shaped air seperator as it was furred up at the 15mm end that connected to the feed from the F/E tank. As this happened at 9pm (things like this always do !) I simply drained down and replaced...

Dumbfounded - why wont the rads warm up !

Sam, thanks for the help I'll give it a try tomorrow. I have managed to get the rads in the lounge luke warm by shutting off other rads, but its late now and I need some sleep. Malc

Dumbfounded - why wont the rads warm up !

Thanks for the reply. The system is a standard gravity fed (open vent I think the term is) one. In a nutshell the Boiler is less than 6 years old, the pump, 3 way zone valve, the HW cylindar and all electrics are less than a year old. I don't have any TRV's - just simple lockshields...

Dumbfounded - why wont the rads warm up !

Ive been having issues with our central heating, mainly trying to get the downstairs rads hot (when the system worked you could hardly keep your hands on them !) It has been suggested that the issue could be sludge or an airlock or a faulty pump. If you've read my previous posts then you'll...

    Bypassing CH

Thanks for the reply. No its not a bungalow, and the way it was installed means I can't force heat to the downstairs. I could probably have the bathroom rad as the only rad on the cct as this is the first one fed from the pump if I need to have some means of a safety belt incase the 3 way...

    Bypassing CH

I'm in the process of installing a complete new radiator circuit and I've got to the point where I need to rip out the old pipwork under the floorboards to allow me to run the new in. However as I'm not able to take time off work and doing this at weekends and evenings we still need hot water...

Overheat problem - Baxi Solo 3

Well, with a lot of fiddling we've managed to get some heat in the lounge, but the system isn't working as well as it should. The pump is fine as I can feel the heat progressing through the pipes when I've opened all the valves on the rads. Anyway I digress from the reason for posting. I...

Stumped - hot pipes, cold rads

Hi, Yes the feed / expansion tank has water - the ball cock is working fine and the water is cold. By that I mean its what you would expect to be for a tank in the airing cupboard, (we have no loft) ie it not stone cold as if it was constantly or freshly drawn from the mains. I've just...

Stumped - hot pipes, cold rads

Need some advice. I've been having problems with my CH system, and whilst I can get some rads warm, its hard to balance due to a poor installation of some additional rads by a so called professional plumber. However, whats perplexing me is that the feed pipe to the rads downstairs is hot...

    Radiator size calculator

Ok I'm lost ! Using the heat loss application from http://www.heatweb.com/ does that mean that if, for arguments sake, the calculated loss for a room is 10000 btu that you need to install rads to that value to maintain the required temperature (say 21c for example). Cheers Malcolm

Moving boiler water pipes advice ?

I would of thought the second option would be OK as one of the existing pipes is above the proposed new door, and would be less work

    Powerflushing

Why is it that nearly every plumber that I contacted with a view to resolving an issue with my heating wanted to sell me a powerflush... is it money for old rope ? I gather they hook up a pump, a waste pipe and run an acid based cleaner through the system at pressure in a bid to get all the...
