    Purchase FCU combined lightswitch

I need to replace the switch for our bathroom as the switch is faulty but I've never seen one like it before. It is a combined FCU for the fan & lightswitch. Any suggestions where I can buy one please?

    Advice: Roof foam insulation

Yes, I have read quite a few scare stories. It was the surveyor's report though that got me researching. It stated: .... certain repairs and/or improvements, which do not affect mortgageability, are required. The underside of the roof covering and roof frame is concealed by sprayed foam. This...

    Advice: Roof foam insulation

We are quite far down the line in buying a small terraced house as a buy-to-let, where the cost of a new roof (in Barnsley) is estimated to cost around £3000. It currently has a 13 year old roof that appears in very good condition externally. The house is being bought for £72k. However, the...

    Wiring Double Oven

I see. Any suggestions which well known chain of electrical supply stores would sell cut lengths of heat resistant 4mm flex? In relation to downgrading the mcb, the next one down is 20A, won't that possibly trip based on max load?

    Wiring Double Oven

Thanks for your reply. It is currently a 32A MCB. What size would it best to replace with? It is a 6mm cable circuit. As I say, I have to have a socket there for the gas hob. Would the 2nd cooker switch with socket idea not work/comply?

    Wiring Double Oven

Our old double oven that was installed at the time of the house being built 10 years ago was simply plugged into a socket with a 13A plug behind the oven. This socket is connected to a 45A cooker switch with socket. It has it's own radial circuit using 6mm cable. We have just had a new...

    Replacement gas hob

The supply to my old hob has its own small tap underneath the hob. Is it ok to simply turn off the gas using this tap & disconnect the hob, only getting Gas Safe plumber in to refit? Or do I need to get them in to put a temporary cap on?

    Install Inspection Chamber Risers

The diameter of the edges of the circular chamber is definitely 500mm. Is that where the measurement is taken ie. is 450mm dia chamber measured to the outside edge?

    Install Inspection Chamber Risers

It just looks dry because soil fell down when i lifted the concrete slab. The top of the manhole is not even covered correctly, it has a proper access cover to the left and then to the right is half a concrete slab so soil can get down the gap when it's moved. What signs are there that we...

    Install Inspection Chamber Risers

When Ben Bailey threw up/(built) our house 10 years ago they managed to install two of the largest, ugliest inspection chambers in our garden. Looking at the photos below, I wondered if it would be possible to install some plastic chamber risers of the same diameter as the chamber base...

    Replace window in composite door?

The rear door in our kitchen was fitted by Bodget Baileys homes when built. It has been leaking around the window area with the internal metal rusting. I have removed a small area of the plastic trim that surrounds it to look inside to see if it were possible to simply change the glass. Is...

    Soakaway - Permission required?

Thanks Woody I see I was mistaken about the legislation regarding simple replacement having looked at it. Fortunately, none of our surface water will ever get into the local sewers as we are below the ground level of them and our waste water has to be pumped up to those sewers. No surface...

    Soakaway - Permission required?

Our current concrete driveway is in need of replacing and when we bought the house I knew that I would need to add a drainage channel as it slopes towards the house. Currently the surface water has nowhere proper to go but has found a way into the ground by causing a crack in the concrete. I...

    Airbricks and DPC

I'm taking the advice in, thanks guys. I can confirm that the DPC is definitely at the top of those air bricks. I'm not too worried about standing water getting in to them, as I'll be getting some drainage channels installed and the slope is away from the house. I was concerned about rain...

    Airbricks and DPC

I have just had a quote for a resin bound drive and path. I am happy with the quote and the explanation of how this is done. The surface will be 14mm thick and laid on top of existing concrete. The image below shows my current path level and one of 4 airbricks along this path. After adding...

    Any benefit having dry verge

Perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick with the dry verge. He did mention about fixing it to the battens. I suppose from these comments that the dry verge is instead of pointing. I think I'll be going for the repointing option. Thanks all for your advice.

    Any benefit having dry verge

Had a quote from the roofer to sort out our gable end where tile cement has started to come out. It does get full sun for most of the day, so maybe that's why only that end of the house has failed. He has quoted £350 for lifting tiles and resetting in cement bed with new clips where required...

    Drainage - Which expert?

Our 1980's bungalow was a self build by a previous owner and I beleive that the drains were a cowboy job. I do need some work on them, possibly replacing 2 or 3 of the manhole/access points. Most of the drainage companies seem to be primarily interested in high cost clearing of drains...

    Drainpipe directly into the ground?

Thanks for your reply. When you say its been correct for many years does that include as far back as 30 years? No, there are no loos draining into the drainpipe drain. There is a soil pipe quite close to the incorrectly fitted waste pipe. Would it be ok to connect the waste pipe to the...
