    Drainpipe directly into the ground?

I've no idea if they go into a soakaway, but that's why I was asking if it's normal. I just know that they don't run into our drains. The waste pipes discharge into the plastic grate below the drainpipe & I suspect it was added sometime after the build.

    Drainpipe directly into the ground?

Our bungalow was built around 1980. Having just examined all of the drain manholes I have discovered that the 3 drainpipes for the rainwater obviously go straight into the ground. Is this normal? Also the bathroom sink & shower waste are connected to one of these drains. Surely that's not right.

Decking Ledger Board - Spacing fixings

I have studied the Ultimate Handyman website regarding building a deck but it was missing one piece of info. When fixing the ledger board with thru bolts what distance should there be between each thru bolt please?

    Sprung a Leak

 This has really annoyed me. Just now the cold water joint in exactly the same place has just sprung a leak with water hissing out. Why on earth should both joints fail like this after 4 months with no problem?

    Sprung a Leak

No the pipe hasn't budged. Can't remember which inserts but they were the same manufacturer as the pipe. So what should I do for the best now I have this problem?

    Sprung a Leak

I have a compression isolation valve fitted to plastic pipe to the shower using the correct inserts. Suddenly the hot water has spurted out of this joint. Fortunately I was at home and noticed that the boiler was heating up when it shouldn't be so not too much damage caused. This joint has...

    Gradients on Driveway for aggregates

Thanks Noseall. If that is the reason perhaps I could get away with this type of system. The slope doesn't seem too steep and we manage in winter when it seldom snows.

    Gradients on Driveway for aggregates

I've been looking at this grid system for containing aggregates or grass. http://www.aco-technologies.com/product_overview.php?id=18&PHPSESSID=b86bf2d4adb780ed986e101336bde44e It states on the website that it is suitable for gradients of 5% or more if pegged. Our drive is 10% gradient...

Sealed System - Why does water not leak out?

I have a combi boiler so have a sealed system in a bungalow. Without draining down I cut into one of the heating pipes below floor level (intending to make a quick push fit connection) and after the initial pressurised water escaped no further water came out of the pipes and I could work at...

Toilet waste - underground drainage pipe

We live in a bungalow. The old toilet waste pipe connected directly to a brown underground drainage pipe running underneath the bathroom floor. I am placing the toilet in a slightly different place and have cut the drainage pipe back and connected a Screwfix adjustable bend (I had to use one...

    Toilet Waste Connector

I am fitting a new toilet in a slightly different place in the bathroom. I have just realised that it should have a swan neck connector but this will cause extra problems due to what's underneath. The 90 deg. connector that I had initially bought will fit on the toilet pipe but because there...

    Is Pressure Reducing Valve Necessary?

I'm sorry that I caused such friction :| I'm still curious though about what would happen to a shower that is overpowered by pressure if anyone knows.

    Getting tiles and mosaic flat

I am about to tile the back wall of my shower. I have already tanked it. There will be a vertical section of mosaic tiles (which are 4.7cm square) in the centre of the wall about 40cm wide by 240cm tall. Either side will be 45cm x 30cm tiles (cut to size). Both mozaics and tiles are the...

    Is Pressure Reducing Valve Necessary?

As far as I know it doesn't but what would happen if it ever did and I didn't have one fitted?

    Is Pressure Reducing Valve Necessary?

I am going to fit a Triton 'Thames' thermostatic concentric mixer shower. It advises that for a combi-boiler system (which I have) that it should have a pressure reducing valve installed if the pressure is 5 bar or more. Our pressure is usually well below 5 bar so perhaps I could get away...

    Regular Topping Up Caused Problem?

What are the signs to look for if a radiator weeps? And regardless of how the pressure is dropping, could the fact the the system is getting watered down cause the heat exchanger to fail?

    Regular Topping Up Caused Problem?

I have already found out through this forum that the reason that I am having to top up my combi-boiler every 2 to 3 weeks could be due to a faulty Pressure Relief Valve or Automatic Air Vent, as there do not appear to be any leaks. A couple of months ago I had to have the heat exchanger...
