Removing Head Gear On My Mixer Tap

Hi, My kitchen mixer tap is dripping and driving everyone in the house nuts. First problem is working out how to get into it. There's no H and C indicators covering screws, or anything obvious that I can see. Any suggestions? Also, can anyone identify the make of this tap? It's very...

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

Thanks for the advice - noted! I currently have the cistern off. The service valve is still connected to the supply, and I don't intend removing - mainly because I'm not entirely sure where the stopcock is! Note to self - must find out where the stopcock is.

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

Latest update on my Easter holiday project. I've disconnected the cistern again. No amount of tightening of bolts or wiggling about was going to make the cistern sit where it needs to to match the existing pipework and the securing holes in the wall. It's all because the replacement coupling...

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

I've learnt at least one thing during this process. The valve I have (shown in my pic) is a service valve, not an isolation valve.

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

Thanks for all your replies. Off to get a replacement fibre washer tomorrow. Next question. I've replaced the coupling kit on this toilet, and now it's sitting a little higher than before. If you look at the photo of the water inlet fitting, the gap you see is how much the cistern needs to...

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

Aha, so the narrow washer is a fibre one? It felt like copper to me, my bad. You could well be right - that rubber washer may not have come from this fitting at all. I just found it on the floor after I'd been fiddling with the cistern so assumed it came from there. So the plastic bit just...

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

Here's a photo of the fitting, with the copper washer and the old, er, two-piece washer, ahem, on the side. Never uploaded an image before, so hope it works.

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

Thanks for your replies folks. While I appreciate your motive regarding using a foolproof replacement, I could end up with the problem of the thread not meeting the inlet unless it protrudes the exact same as my existing thread. The inlet can't really be moved. Plus, I don't really want to...

Connecting Water Supply To Toilet Inlet

I've just got to the point where I need to reconnect the water supply to my close coupled cistern and I'm a little confused regarding washers. I made the mistake of not making a note of the washer arrangement when I disconnected the supply. There's the plastic thread that comes out the bottom...

    New Toilet Siphon Leaking

Can anyone advise whether I should or could use LS-X? It says it's an external leak sealant, but I need something for inside the cistern to seal between the supplied rubber washer and the cistern itself. Also anyone care to suggest, without me being able to show you, what was used in my...

    New Toilet Siphon Leaking

It's an Opella. I had no idea they have known faults. Can you give me a link to some?

    New Toilet Siphon Leaking

I haven't connected to the pan yet, so it's not the doughnut.

    New Toilet Siphon Leaking

I thought I cleaned the old stuff away as best I could but I'll check. It may be the pessimist in me but I did have the sense to try some water in the cistern before reassembling to the pan. But thanks anyway. Others seem to suggest LSX. Any comments?

    New Toilet Siphon Leaking

Hi there. I've just replaced the siphon in my close coupled toilet. Unfortunately the joint between the siphon and the cistern is leaking. I've used the washer that came with the siphon (on the inside of the cistern) and tightened the big plastic nut to hand-tight plus a quarter turn, as...

    Boiler Firing Frequently

Yes, heating is working. I have it on at the moment, and it's behaving as I described. The boiler fires but it only stays on for about 45secs, then stays off for about 90secs, then fires again. And it's doing that repeatedly. And it's not the room stat that's causing it to stop firing...

    Boiler Firing Frequently

Well, as I said, I wasn't at home when the work was done, but the company is well established locally so I'd surprised if they did something dodgy. I know that's no guarantee though. All I can say is the new fan hums, whereas the old fan didn't, but the old fan at times sounded as if it was on...

    Boiler Firing Frequently

Can't confirm whether the fan was a genuine Ideal. The work was done when I wasn't at home. Could have a look inside I suppose. One thing I have noticed is that there's quite a noticeable hum from the fan now. Pretty sure the pump is OK because all the radiators get hot. It's just this...
