    Celotex GA3100 vs GA4100

Sure, I just worry whether it will pass an inspection as this is for a newly extended.

    Celotex GA3100 vs GA4100

Maybe I should be concerned that their GA3100 has been sitting in their warehouse for some significant time now. Hasn't it been a few years now that GA4100 has been on the market? Cheers.

    Celotex GA3100 vs GA4100

My supplier offered to sell to me Celotex GA3100. I know Celotex manufacturer replaced it with GA4100. Would I make a mistake by accepting GA3100? Perhaps it has poorer qualities than GA4100? Do both of them have the same U value? Do you know what their U value is? Many thanks.

What plasterboard for garage ceiling? Vapour barrier?

What about insulation boards such as Kingspan type? Doesn't that need to -and shouldn't - breathe either? I am going to use it to insulate the ground floor. That means I can block under-floor airbricks in my outside walls, am I right?

What plasterboard for garage ceiling? Vapour barrier?

Building control have already passed my application with all specs but the drawing doesn't spell out all the details. I am doing the work myself. Do the building regs specify all the details? Presumably I can get them from LABC?

What plasterboard for garage ceiling? Vapour barrier?

Yes, between the bedroom and the loft I will be using K18 which is a 12 mm thk foil backed plasterboard. I will then also put loft insulation on top of it. I am just still not sure if I need to leave any space between plasterboards and insulation (which I thought was the vapour barrier) for...

What plasterboard for garage ceiling? Vapour barrier?

I thought the vapour barrier is the air gap either above or below the insulation layer. From mountainwalker's posting I understand it is the gap between the plasterboard sheets? ok, if it's on a ground floor I need to have the insulation aired from underneath. What about in the 1st floor...

What plasterboard for garage ceiling? Vapour barrier?

Hi, I am putting a floor in for the 1st floor bedroom above the garage and in the loft above the bedroom. 1st floor: There will be a plaster board screwed to the underside of the joists. QUESTIONS: What kind do I need as that will become a ceiling for the garage i.e. fire risk? Is...

    Thin floor insulation

Sounds like a good plan. You'll make an improvement (take the chill off the floor), the garage will still be complying with the regs (step down) and you can still add more insulation for if it ever gets converted to comply with the regs then as well. Nothing worse than freezing toes... :)...

    Thin floor insulation

I am pretty sure a garage can have an insulated floor as you describe. It might be against regs if you have a door to the garage from your house as you need to step down 100mm to it (fire risk requirement). If you can't keep that distance then maybe you want to apply for a planning permission...

floor and loft Kingspan insulation equivalents

Hi, I was wondering if there are any equivalents to Kingspan K7, K18, K3 that might be a lot cheaper but just as good? Does any of them have acoustic insulation properties or which Kingspan does? Cheers, much appreciated.

    loft insulation

Hi, I found the details within the drawing i.e. 2 x 12.5 plasterboard shts. I worked out I need a k18 board 37.5mm thk (i.e. 25mm plus 12.5mm of foil) so including K7 the insulation will total 137.5mm. The joists are 175mm. Does this mean I need to top up with another 75mm of insulation...

    loft insulation

Hi, I am rather puzzled by the following note (extracted from our drawing): "Provide 100mm thk kingspan k7 between joists with kooltherm k18 to the underside of the ceiling joists." Is 100mm the total of k7 and k18? If so what should be the thickness of each? And in what order do I place...

The layer between UFH heat spreader plate and floor tiles

tictic you are a star! the news is not ideal but it's nice to get a response :) I'll check with the mfc. btw I wonder if I am wasting my time. If I have just rads and no ufh (so many obstacles are putting me off) will my feet still freeze once I've insulated the floor between...

The layer between UFH heat spreader plate and floor tiles

Hi, I wonder if I have potentially another problem? Whatever I do (replace joists or possibly suspend insulation and plates on hangers) I will end up with approximately 25 - 45 mm between the earth and battens. Does the gap between the earth and battens matter or is it a recipe for some kind...

    Underfloor heating

Hi, I am concerned if our kitchen will be warm enough. The kitchen has a rectangular shape with a rectangular dogleg. The dogleg part will have kitchen units in a 'U' shape so ufh will be just in the middle. The rest of the kitchen will have ufh all over except for two corners with the...

The layer between UFH heat spreader plate and floor tiles

oh dear, ground floor joists are only 47-50 x 100 mm so won't fit all the insulation required plus ufh spreader plates. Do I have to replace the joists or is there an alternative? :x

The layer between UFH heat spreader plate and floor tiles

I am very grateful for all your advice tictic. Have been reading loads about ufh for timber floor recently and always find something new. Wish me luck. :)
