    Flash heater shower not controllable

It's a Mira. I can't remember the model off-hand. Will check later. And yes, it's electric - I'm not aware of many flash heater showers that warm the water by means of coal, wood etc. ;)

    Flash heater shower not controllable

We have a 15-year-old shower which doesn't seem to graduate the temperature very well. It's a fairly basic flash-heater type, with just a single cold mains input. This time of year it seems very hard to control - it's either too hot or if you turn it down just a bit, it doesn't heat at all. In...

    Do leather suites need conditioning?

Just bought a new leather suite (around £1500 for a 3+2). The salesman convinced us it was good quality leather and should wear well. Our old suite was 14 years old and the leather still looked very good. But a cheap, small sofa we bought for another room had worn really badly, despite being...

Live and neutral reversible on light fitting?

Yeah, I was surprised that there was no obvious indicated difference between the two wires. As I said it is a clear plastic outer sheath and each wire within has clear insulation. And the wire is silver coloured, so you see that from the outside. I live in Ireland, but we bough the unit in...

Live and neutral reversible on light fitting?

Thanks for the replies. It's actually a screw bulb fitting, so I guess I'd better get it right... There are some labelled terminators in the rose, but I didn't take note of which way it was wired before I took it to bits, because both wires in the flex looked identical. There is no obvious...

Live and neutral reversible on light fitting?

My wife bought a chrome ceiling rose and pendant to replace the standard white plastic one (to match a new chrome light cover) The flex it came with is very long and I need to shorten it before wiring it up. But it is not usual white flex with a brown and blue core. It's made of transparent...

    Radiator covers any good?

What is it - an open frame?

    Radiator covers any good?

That's exactly how I understood it, stem. Which is why I asked the question - most covers I've seen don't have significant openings at the base to allow the entry of air and even fewer have openings at the top to allow the heated air to convect directly upwards into the room as the radiator...

    Radiator covers any good?

So, nothing positive to say then...? Thanks for the responses - pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter. TopDogPlumbing makes a good point. The single rad we have there is under-specced for the area and even the Designer suggested to us we could replace it with a...

    Radiator covers any good?

We've been getting advice from an interior design expert about some improvements to our 13-y-o home. One thing she has suggested is to put a radiator cover on the rad in our entrance hall, purely for aesthetic reasons. I'm kind of against this because that one rad has to heat the large, open...

    Plantex or similar sheeting?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but thought I'd give an update on progress 8 years later! In the end, we covered the whole area with pegged-down Plantex and topped with no less than 3 tonnes of chip bark to get a 6 inch depth! It looked good for a few seasons, but after 7 years the chip...

    Wiring a Salus RT300 Thermostat

Reading up a bit more - I understand a little more, I think... On the Danfoss, the brown wire going into L is the live input. The blue going into N is neutral (!) Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are the "switched live output". 3 has the common link to L, and 2 is the empty terminal for the OFF...

    Wiring a Salus RT300 Thermostat

I'm replacing a Danfoss RET230P dial-type room thermostat with a Salus RT300 digital one in our upstairs 'zone'. I thought it would be easy because I did something similar a few years ago downstairs replacing an old dial Honeywell with a digital DT200 Honeywell. There were just two brown...

Soft plastic plug to replace a moulded one

I got the Duraplug. It's a little larger than ideal, but fits into the recess alright - sometimes some manual reorientation might be needed. It's a semi-soft plastic rather than rubber, so shouldn't leave marks on the floor. It's more likely to survive a few bangs than a hard plastic one anyway.

Soft plastic plug to replace a moulded one

Thanks for the replies. The Duraplug looks a little larger than I'd like, but I'll have a look in my local B&Q in Galway to see if they have one.

Soft plastic plug to replace a moulded one

The moulded mains plug on our Miele vacuum cleaner got damaged, so I replaced it with a regular one. But it's not ideal, as it's a bit hard and is therefore more hazardous when flailing around during cord retraction. It could easily mark the wooden floor, or worse, and is likely to just...
