Using non pressure treated/non tanalised Fence Posts

Lol, thanks for the input chaps. I think I might just buy some pressure treated posts and use the other stuff for some heavy duty framework for a shed. :)

Using non pressure treated/non tanalised Fence Posts

I think I might be able to lay my hands on some 'blackjack' bitumen paint (if that's any good?), and have no problem with the concrete being a bit proud of the ground as it's going to have gravel/slate chippings down anyway, which should disguise that slightly.

Using non pressure treated/non tanalised Fence Posts

Hi folks, not sure if this is the best place for this, or 'in the garden', moderators feel free to move it if needs be. I've got a stack of 8ft long 4" thick posts from a friend. They're apparently used as some sort of packing material for large engines, and are usually left in a skip at his...

Soft spongy soil after large tree stump removal

To be honest it was more about it being the only suitable area for a shed, which I don't want to get swallowed up by the ground lol. The tree itself was cut down some 15 years or more ago (long before we moved in) and the stump was dead and rotten, and was ground out a couple of years ago...

Soft spongy soil after large tree stump removal

Evening everyone, Has anyone any tips for firming up the soil after a large tree stump (2.5-3ft wide) has been removed. The stump was quite old (tree sawn down some 15 years ago), and was cut and ground out maybe 2 years ago. Have added buckets and buckets more soil to the area and stamped...

    Buying/Borrowing/Leasing overgrown land

There's not massive amounts of rubbish to be honest, just annoying amounts of the usual lazy arse stuff like cans and crisp bags getting chucked into all the weedy undergrowth. That and the larger stuff being deliberately brought onto the field.

    Buying/Borrowing/Leasing overgrown land

Hi folks, Has anyone any experience of buying/borrowing/leasing land from Housing Associations, in particular Home Housing/Home Group? We own our house and freehold in a street owned by Home Housing. Most of the other houses in the street are rented. The back and side of our house...

I'd go with the Epoxy suggestion, I've nothing but good experiences with re-drilling next to areas I've had to fill with epoxy.

    Sheds within 1m of boundary

Hi folks, reading the planning portal website thingy, I see sheds/outbuildings made of combustible materials (aka wood) shouldn't be within 1m of the boundary. I'm looking to build a largeish shed/workshop (somewhere between 10'x8' to 12'x10', but due to the size of the garden (ie not very...

Building Regulations regarding open tread/riser stairs

Hi folks, Our staircase is in our living room (and there's no easy way of relocating it), and the living room itself isn't particularly massive. The current staircase is quite overpowering (as well as being ugly generally). I'm considering whether replacing it with something like this would...

Standard straight Staircase and floating weyroc floor

The weyroc is terribly uneven and needs replacing (some damaged areas too) btw, hence my question :)

Standard straight Staircase and floating weyroc floor

Hi folks, we have a standard straight staircase and a block and beam/polystyrene/floating weyroc type chipboard floor in our living room. On removing the floor covering, the stairs seem to be attached to the weyroc floating floor (ie sitting on it). It this standard practice? I (probably...

    Problem with neighbour

Living in a bought ex-housing association property myself, I always found the housing association to be very helpful where there's been potential disputes between neighbours. I'd make your first port of call your housing officer. Explain fully the situation and ask what your options are...

Quick question, replacing double light switch with 2x singles

Aye, currently the earths there are joined and sleeved together, so there is indeed two cores plus earths (which can be separated and re-sleeved). And yes, both will be straight down the wall to the switches. Top stuff. :)

Quick question, replacing double light switch with 2x singles

Hi folks, Might be a silly/simple question, but best to be safe rather than sorry I guess. I'm altering out room layout slightly, and have left myself with two light fittings either side of a wall, but a double switch with two sets of wiring going to it. Obviously, having a double...

Running cables into new stud wall ready for electrician

Thanks folks. Nah no funny ideas about connecting up, I just want to crack on with getting the wall finished (it's currently just studs, rockwool and bare plasterboard), so it can be painted and carpet put down. The conduit and draw ropes idea might be the best idea, as I seriously haven't a...

Running cables into new stud wall ready for electrician

Hi folks, First of all, sorry if any of this is ignorant/daft sounding, also apologies if my attempts to search have failed, busy morning at work and I'm drawing blanks. Got a new stud partition upstairs, which I'm itching to skim over - but I need wiring for a couple of sockets in this...

    Honeywell room thermostat - knackered?

Sorted, looks like something has been pressed on the massively over complicated (for me lol) lcd gubbins on the boiler. Bah, sorry for bothering you folks :-)

    Honeywell room thermostat - knackered?

Woke up this morning to no radiators. Looking at the thermostat, it's clicking when turned but no light is coming on. Not sure of the exact model, but it looks identical to this one:- Gas and Electric are on and we have hot water. Is it likely the thermostat is knackered (it's barely a...
