    Tiling Without Using Grout??

My advice to you is simple. NEVER BUTT UP TILES IN A BATHROOM. Rarely is it acceptable to butt up tiles, other than dry decor areas ie fireplace surrounds. Always Grout to waterproof or cover expansion issues. Decline to do job if she wants it done that way. It wil come back in your face !

    tile adhesive

Personally I would use a powdered cementicious adhesive for large and wieghty porcelain tiles on walls - Flexible products from mapei, bal, granfix or benfer are fine. Some manufacturers do claim that certain of their flex tubs are ok for large format tiles, but the grip when placing can be a...

    Rocersa Tiles

Tiv tes OSC beige is a current Rocersa line. You should be able to get them from someone locally. There are a few distributors I know who have done them in the past. We have them in kent but we couldnt post to you as that amount will always be smashed to pieces by couriers. Just google Rocersa...

    tripping at immersion heater

Electric has been tripping when immersion timer starts operating in morning. One year ago I had a similar problem with a new B&Q timer. Only found out it was timer after wasting my time checking the immersion element was OK. Got my money back and put in a homebase electronic timer. Now its...

    Electric Oven Thermostat

I have a Creda H150EW Electric Oven. (the one with a vertical panel at the back holding the controls) Whilst the knobs controlling the rings and grill operate fine, the knob controlling the Oven will not turn off, even at 'o' - hence the whole appliance has to be turned off at the main switch on...

    Worcester24cdi = frequent resets needed

A couple of months ago at my tenants' house I noticed that the front water/heat light on the combi were slowly flashing. The fault diagnosis chart indicated an 'overheat' , so I simply pressed re-set. Since then the girls have noticed intermittent problems with the boiler shutting down and...

    identifying the lockshield valves

Recently acquired a property which has had an additional radiator installed. System needs balancing - I am familiar with the technique to do this. However some of the other radiators' caps have been taken off. There are a few radiators where the valve at each end looks exactly the same ! How...

Tiles aren't sticking to marine ply

Nellyb was spot on. You are asking for trouble getting most materials from B&Q. The adhesives are normally 'budget' & of inferior quality. Its advisable to PVA any ply as otherwise the liquid in the adhesive will partially soak in & there will be limited adherence. Secondly, it is...

Using tub adhesives / grout lines

just try a standard brand like unibond/evostik / granfix etc 'in house 'brands at indepedents which wont rip you off. Its just that brands like ardex & bal are good but so expensive & are used only where 1)architectural requirements dictate that this must be used by builders 2) people are...

    ceramic floor tiles

It depends on the severeness of the stains. Before I mention anything, it is always important to test a small area of inconspicuous tile with the solution to hand. Various products on the market, ;;;;;;HG (extra)cement and film remover. I believe Lithofin do a similar product. Remember, some of...

How do i remove the grout from the wee holes in a border ?

It sounds as if you have bought Travertine marble tiles which have a crater like appearance. If this is the case then they should actually be filled in like the tiler has done in order to avoid water leaking through any potential holes in the stone. In perfectly dry areas, then i suppose they...

    DPC for ceramic tiles?

The proper way, if you retain the marley tiles, is to coat them with an acrylic PVA (covers the damp scenario if it does exist) and lay tiles with a Flexible floor adhesive. Powdered cement based is always better but i suppose if you prefer a ready made tub of 'flex 'adhesive & prepared to pay...

Using tub adhesives / grout lines

Most professional tilers dislike fix n grout, as not particularly user friendly & invariably comes only in brilliant white. Nevertheless, it is normally a good grade of water proofness(gradeA). Personally, I would always grout in order to avoid tiles popping off in future. Inevitably...

    Quadrant Tiling

I presume you are talking about the traditional ceramic cristal bath trims. Normally the box set comes with a silicone sealant. If fixing individual ones, then stick with a premium silicone - top of range flex unibond silicone , for use in damp areas is good. Costs around £8 a tube but is...

Cost of laying polished procelain tiles

Ordinary ceramic tiles are normally cheaper to lay in terms of materials. If laying on concrete, you an use ordinary fastset. If on wood, use flexible fastset. Only thing with ceramic is that it chips easier than porcelain. Also porcelain is very similar all the way through the tile so is less...

    ceramic tiles over vinyl tiles??

If the vinyl tiles are of the 'marley' type ie about a foot square, thin , and well stuck down, there is little point pulling them up, as there will be a horrible black bitumin texture underneath. Simply ensure they are sound, clean & then PVA the whole surface. Then use a one part flexible...

    Bathroom Flooring

Overlaying Ply is best option (min 12mm altho Architect building std min is really 15mm). While standard Ply Ok, Marine ply is the best for bathroom. Then PVA the Ply, and use a one part 'Flexible ' adhesive and of course a flexi grout. Most tilers are uncomfortable tiling direct onto extra...
