    New computer suggestions.

You say you have done a clean up. What exactly did this clean up consist of? There are lots of supposedly wonder programs out there that IMO don't do very much to speed up peoples PC's. As EFCLee1 has said if you can post your system specs then that would be useful. Maybe all you need to do...

    My Laptop won't power on?

My guess would be the CPU is overheating. On boot if the CPU exceeds a certain temp then the laptop will automatically shut down. If you are happy taking it apart I would check that any thermal paste between the CPU and motherboard (if its not hard soldered to the motherboard) is still intact...

    LAPTOP

The F keys or Function Keys to give them their full name do just that. They are keys that do certain functions. F1 mainly activates a help menu in an application F2 will rename a highlighted file F3 generally activates a search window F4 opens a find window Alt + F4 closes an application...

    upgrading/building a laptop

It would be a nice project to do and IMO not that difficult to find most of the hardware to put one together. The main issue would come when finding a laptop body for it all to fit in and still keep it nice and portable (maybe you could retro fit a briefcase). Virtually all of the motherboards...

    Tiling a floor!

Hi folks. I have marked the centre point of the floor (small hallway by front door) ready for tiling but then a friend came round and said that this would leave me with small sizes of tile by the doorway into the living room and it is a bad idea to have small sized tiles in high traffic areas...

    DeWalt power tools and batteries

Hi all. I have a DeWalt cordless drill that uses a 18V 1.3Ah battery. If I was to buy another DeWalt 'bare' unit that required a 18V battery would I be able to run it using the batteries I already have? I would presume so as 18V is 18V so it would just give the same amount of power just...

    router/modem won't let me see t'internet ?

If you can access the set-up pages check to make sure that the router is showing an IP address/Default gateway. If it reads something like 255.255.... or 192.168.... then it wont be connected to the internet. If it shows an IP address different to the ones above then your router is most...

    virgin super hub

It wont work because the MAC address (its unique to every network interface device) wont be registered with Virgin. What did virgin say when you rang them? Did they point blank refuse to add the MAC address to their database?

Buffalo Hard Drive software . AVOID AVOID awful junk!

I have a number of Buffalo hardware items and have to say that I can't fault them. But as another poster has said, I would personally stay away from any bundled software and source your own. It usually does more harm than good as I read you have found out.

    Air in radiators

Would turning the main water supply off cause air to leak into the radiators? I've had to turn the water off this week to re-do the plumbing around my new kitchen and found that air has leaked into the radiators (not all, just some). Could this be caused by turning the main water supply off?

About to tackle installing my own kitchen. Advice needed

The socket is above the hood not the hob. maybe I didn't make that very clear. The socket is to power the hood but because of where the socket is, when the hood butts up to it the distance from hob to hood will only be 735mm. I don't think the wiring will be long enough to move the socket...

About to tackle installing my own kitchen. Advice needed

Delivery day tomorrow eek. I'm having a gas hob and want to have the extractor hood vent to the outside. My only issue is the hood instructions say it should be mounted 750mm above the hob but I only have 735mm. Would it be illegal/against regulations/dangerous to install it at this height or...

    new laptop

MonsterMinty is right. Most laptop manufacturers usually bundle there hardware with free trial periods on software from their preferred partners. Most if not all of the bundled software will be a waste of time. Don't get me wrong, it will work but in the process hog loads of your system memory...

    cd to iphone

I use to hate iTunes as well in its earlier days. I don't mind it as much now, especially as I have an iPhone. I don't personally rip CD's using iTunes because over time I have found better tools to do the job but as with anything, they all cost money. I try to do all my tutorials using, in...

    Cooker hood question?

I've been marking on the wall for where the extractor hood is going to go in my new kitchen and may have run into an issue. I have 33cm's of room for the chimney part of the extractor but the installation guide says you should have a minimum of 57cm for the chimney. Is this a minimum...
