Guys, I’ve got an area approx 60m2 to compact down in the next month, never used a compactor before. Are they easy to use and control? I know not to whack down more than 75mm at a time, but any more tips? PS - trevorbayliss sorry for hijacking your thread

    Bauker Kango keeps tripping out

borrowed a Bauker breaker (240v) to attack some mortar left behind after lifting an old patio. Worked for fifteen minutes (was breaking it with ease) then cut out. It had taken a main trip out in my consumer unit. Reset it, took it out again. The kango wasn’t hot, not even warm so it’s not an...

    Building up an area 400(h) x 800(d) x 2m for patio

as above, I’m looking to extend an area 0.8m x 2m when I replace my old patio. It’s 40cm deep and will be behind a retaining wall. I’m guessing I don’t do the whole 40cm/10” depth with type 1 in 75mm levels, so hows best to fill this space please?

    What pavers do I want

im looking to lay 60m2 of paving, half will replace existing old concrete slabs that I’ll pull up (solid base underneath). The adjoining half I’m going to build up with type 1. I did fall in love with porcelain but the cost has put me off (and for some reason I think it’ll be harder to lay) so...

    Help with a retaining wall

Thanks gents, yes sorry I meant standard concrete blocks (440x215x100). What density should I go for if I’m double skinning it? I’m wanting to render the retaining wall and paint it white. I’ll probably go with 400mm wide foundations, and down 500mm to be safe (400mm compacted type 1, 100mm...

    Help with a retaining wall

Im planning a 10m long retaining wall (430mm high) to contain sub base for a patio. The edge of the patio will sit on top of the wall. Questions: Will a double skinned wall using std building blocks be sufficient? What size footings will the wall need? Width x depth? (area is currently laid...

    Top soil for garden border

We’ve got an area against the fence that’s 8m long, 0.9m wide and going to dig down about 0.5m to plant some small trees etc (decorative trees all no taller than 4-5ft). Will topsoil be best to use? And should we add anything for drainage too? Under the top soil or mixed in with it?
