Hi, 1880s victorian house. window railings, paint is peeling and rust appearing. I've had a quick go with a b&d powerfile sander, seems okay. just any advice on what to prime and paint with, and how much of the rust marks I really need to get rid of. any idea what type of...

where is wood that is 1 7/8" thick to repair external d

If I'm right, external doors are (were) typically 1 7/8 inches thick, 47.62mm I think. I can only find 44mm wood from sheds, any idea where I can get 1 7/8 thick wood to make a repair? any ideas? thanks.

    Fixing replacement wooden door sill..?

thanks all for the responses so far. I should have added more context in my original mail. We hope to move house, we've had an offer, trouble is I have just lost my job, so whilst we have lots of money in the bank, no one will give us a mortgage, so we cannot accept the offer. so...

I've 3 secondary glazing windows from duration windows. they're good at stopping drafts and keeping in warmth, especially the most recent design. I've vertical sliders.

Whole house audio installation. help please?

too true. so, sky are agressively targetting the broadband market, and living in swindon, so are virgin media. I've just swapped to sky, got their branded dlink wireless router, fire up inssider (free software) and sure enough there are 4 sky and virgin routers all using channel 5, all 3...

Whole house audio installation. help please?

http://avtalk.co.uk/showthread.php?t=23081 here's an overview of the apple version of a squeezebox. of course, a bit more proprietary, and pricey no doubt, but if you think you'll stick with apple. these airplay and squeezeboxs are designed to share audio wirelessly, so not much need...

Whole house audio installation. help please?

Hi Adam, a big topic, probably explaining the unclear replies you've had. Have you thought about TV feeds and data as well? I'll give you my suggested approach, which will give you something to think about, and perhaps Chris and others might suggest alternatives. I would expect you...

Whole house audio installation. help please?

:) they were trying to make a cut down squeezeserver to run on the Touch - not sure if they've managed it. Yeah, Sonos and Squeeze have taken different approachs to crack the same nut. I have no doubt you have lots of much more expensive multi-room solutions - wouldn't necessarily mean...

Whole house audio installation. help please?

valid points, and a decision route I took about two years ago. for me, the catalyst for change was my fiance moving in, with her boxes of CDs, and her predilection for taking photos for facebook, etc. I realised that a home server was the only secure way of managing all this av stuff...

Whole house audio installation. help please?

I guess squeeze boxes do the above as well? although they will need seperate amps, which might be perceived as a pain for sourcing/cabling, or a benefit in being less proprietary/more flexible ?

    Wet room glass screen layout

if you're both working on this, the majestic custom screen is good. comes with a channel for wall, floor and ceiling, with instructions. tricky part is getting the channel in ceiling completely parallel with the floor. i managed it, probably a bit of luck. also, water really does not...

    Ceiling Speakers Amp choices???

hi matt, not meaning to be awkward, but perhaps send them back to the ebay seller, perhaps as faulty, perhaps as unclearly advertised, and buy yourself some proper Hifi ceiling speakers, I bet the sound quality and ease of connectivity will make it worthwhile. ?
